How about death dates?
2699 could be 2nd June 1899 or 6th February 1899 depending on whether you use European or American configuration; similarly with the 2695 being an 1895 date. Both are possible for people born in the 1820-30 period.

You have remember that all documents
And verbal stories maybe incorrect.
My grandfather who emigrated in 1888 states on his 1920 US CENSUS he was born in NY.  I have his 1888 passenger manifest
and his 1929 Naturalization Petition.

Go figure.  And he and his siblings have 3 different maiden surnames for their mother.

I also agree that you cannot trust death records as giving correct details. i searched Australian records fruitlessly for quite some time for a relative whose birth was recorded as Melbourne in his death certificate. Eventually, via another record, I found him as being born in London (which I had suspected), but even there in the British records it took time to find his birth certificate as the surname was wrongly spelt by the clerk who took the registration. Marriage and birth records in English speaking countries of people whose origin was in East Europe often suffered from the person's thick accent causing the clerks to register wrong spellings -another example in my family is Valso instead of Warsaw!

David Simon Rose - Lillian Bordach #usa

Carol Jaffe

David S Rose was the younger brother of my maternal grandfather and Lillian was his wife.  David was born in Dec 1876 in either Germany or Russia and married Lillian Bordach (born in 1894) on Jan 18, 1917 in NY. Prior to his marriage he lived in Rochester, NY with his parents Simon & Fannie/Fruma Rose. Also living in Rochester was his sister Rose Rose LaVine & her family and for a time his brother Harry Benjamin Rose, my maternal grandfather.  David & Harry were in business together for some years, some in Rochester and then later in New York City, in ladies clothing and later men's clothing.  After his marriage in 1917 there is no trace of either David or Lillian.  David and his brother had a falling out probably after David's marriage as Harry was a witness to that marriage.  David lived with my grandparents when my mother was a baby, but she never knew him, my grandfather lost his wife in 1920 & remarried in 1925 had another child and my aunt never met him or knew anything about him.  Would love to know what happened to David & Lillian Rose, did they have children, are there any descendants today?

The National Library of Lithuania online catalogue shows the holding
https://lnb.libis.lt/biSearchAction.do?BI001=C1C1B0002199149&resId=

The catalogue also shows one for 1921 and 1922. Perhaps try writing (in English) and asking them to look up the name for you.

Per the extract of her death record on FamilySearch, the baby who died
on 28 Aug. 1905 was the daughter of Sam Shapiro and Ida Cohn. The
child who died on 13 Sept. 1905 had the parents you're looking for --
Isy Shapiro and Ida Isenberg. She's buried at Mount Zion Cemetery,
which, as others have written, still exists and has an online
database. It lists "Lilly Schapiro," who is buried on the grounds of
the Chebra Gemilis Chasodim Anshe Motele -- a society formed by
immigrants from what's now Motol, Belarus.

I would very much appreciate a complete translation of this postcard with a photograph of three men.  Hoping that a translation will help us identify the men in the photo and provide more family information.  Was written in NYC from my husband's grandfather in 1906 to his wife and three daughters in Baden
Austria.  At least one of the men is probably Uncle Burk who was from Lemberg.  Does anyone have any connection with the Burk/Bork/Borker family from Lemberg and Vienna?

Could they be birth years?   Death years?    Hebrew date year?   Russian/Polish date year?

Poland, as a Roman Catholic country, would have been using the same calendar since the late 1500s as what is now the U.S. has been using since the mid-1700s.  The years 2699 and 2695 are not until almost 700 years into the future on that calendar.

Russia used a slightly different calendar, but the difference was less than two weeks, so the years 2699 and 2695 are not until almost 700 years into the future on that calendar either.

On the Hebrew calendar, the current year is 5781, so 2699 and 2695 were over 3000 years ago.  I do not believe that you found records of Jews in Russia/Poland that were that old.

The current Islamic (Muslim) year is 1442, so 2699 and 2695 are over 1000 years into the future.

I haven't checked the Chinese calendar, but agree with Ethan that these numbers are not years.
