The Rabbi of Międzyrzec Podlaski, Poland ( Yiddish -Mezritch), during the C19 was one of the Charlap dynasty. A JRI-Poland search reveals a large number of BMD records for the name ‘CHARLAP’, of whom 60 are in Siedlce Gubernia. There is an interesting Miedzyrzec Marriage Record, 1881 M #46, between Moszka CHARLAP and Sura Rywka CHARLAP , clearly some sort of cousin marriage, which might be worth following up. The scanned image of the original record, which is in the Lublin branch of the Polish State Archives, can be viewed online.
It would be a good way forward to try to relate the family line that you have by word-of-mouth evidence with records available on JRI-Poland.

Hi Joelle,

It's interesting, I was actually doing some research into Emden (and OstFriesland more generally) these past few days.
Perhaps you already know the work of Max Markreich (archived at Leo Baeck Institute) on this area ? If not I recommend you look at it, it's of general interest for all those researching these areas.

By the way here is an interesting resource that indexes the names in his work
https://nljewgen.org/pdf_boeken/1250_index_joden_ostfriesland_1700-1945.pdf

This is another excellent resource on the region of Groningen, in which I believe there are cross-border family links with the Emden area.
https://nljewgen.org/pdf_boeken/0600_joden_in_groningen.pdf

Also Familysearch has many records on residents in Emden
Burger Buch 1512- : https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/208267?availability=Family%20History%20Library
Zivilstandregister 1494- : https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/479466?availability=Family%20History%20Library

For Gluckstadt (but not online):
BurgerBuch (1620-) : https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/463744?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Hope you find what you're looking for !

Yes familiar with this exhibition.  My late wife was interviewed for this as was her brother.  She was Marion Bloch, daughter of Alfred and Herta Bloch.  It was her grandparents who brought their business, Bloch & Falk, over from Frankfurt.  Bloch & Falk became sort of a central institution in the heights.  To this day people still talk about the aufschnitt, i.e., cold cuts.  They were special as they were kosher but were almost identical to the non-kosher aufschnitt (probably better too).  Yes the fourth reich.

Help with Amsterdam marriage records 1796/5556 #general

YOAV ARAN
Shalom friends,

I hope you are all keeping well.

I am trying to find the parents of my ancestor Clara Barends, born 1758 in Amsterdam. I know from records she married civilly in January 1796, so was thinking her Hebrew record might be somewhere in these pages: https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/714/1.1.2.4.3.2.34/start/0/limit/10/highlight/10
Although I am a Hebrew speaker, I find it quite hard to make out the names in this old handwriting.

Could someone be so kind as to look through these pages to see if they can find the marriage record of Abraham Gerson Horologie Levie Orloos (her husband) and Clara Kleer (Klaartje) BarendsThey married civilly in January 1796, so I am thinking their marriage record will be around שבט תקנו.
The documents are here: https://archief.amsterdam/inventarissen/scans/714/1.1.2.4.3.2.34/start/0/limit/10/highlight/10

Thank you very much indeed.

Warmest regards,

Dear All,

I do not know if the attached, Descendants of Bras Henriques, will help or is far too basic. It mostly comes from Geni, from my mother’s side of the family, but that is not unacceptable.

Hope it helps,

Subject: [JewishGen.org] Glïckstadt - portuguese jews to Emden #germany #sephardic #scandinavia

We are a little group of people trying to verify if our ancestors born in Emden/Bunde/Jemgum in the 1600’s are really related to the Henrique family who settled in  Gluckstadt in the early 1600's.

Some researchers think that they would be children of  Josua Moses Henriques born in 1665 in Gluckstadt, Manuel Mendes Henriques Cohen born around 1640 in Gluckstadt, a Female Mussaphia Dionis Hinrichen born around 1640 in Gluckstadt or  Manuel Mendes Henriques Cohen born around 1640 in Gluckstadt (parents unknown),

However, until now we found not written evidence on such link.
We have very little information on Glückstadt for this period, and we are looking for any document which could guide us and be evidence such a list of all list of Jewish residents between 1600-1700 in Glückstadt, a list of residents in Emden during this period, travel documents, etc...

 Thanks and best regards

The German-Jewish community in Jackson Heights, New York #usa #germany #general

oliverdmarshall@...

Can people point me towards accounts relating to the German-Jewish life in Jackson Heights, New York in the 1930s-60s? I'm looking for anything – such as published or unpublished personal memoirs, fictionalised accounts, academic studies or photos. There's quite a lot that's easily available on German-Jews in Washington Heights, but so far I've not found anything on Jackson Heights, despite the fact that significant numbers also lived in that neighbourhood.

Thank you!

Dear all

I've posted a vital record in Russian for which I need a translation and your take on what it says. It is on ViewMate at the following address:

https://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/viewmateview.asp?key=VM91377

I think (hope!) this is the birth vital of Fayvish Nesanelis who was born in 1847, which I think it does say but as the image is poor not 100% sure.
Any help confirming that this is the case and any other information listed would be much appreciated.

Please respond via the form provided on the ViewMate image page.

Thank you very much.

Re: New Revision Lists found-3 #bessarabia #ukraine #records

Yefim Kogan

Hi everybody,

I did not get my interest in that statistics,  but here is final stats, after we completed to research all 68 microfilms.

There are 68 microfilms in that section.  From that number:
4 microfilms were marked in FamilySearch that they have Jewish records
28 microfilms we found with Jewish records
13 microfilms we have already looked at
40 microfilms do not have any Jewish records

So, we have new 17 microfilms with some Jewish records in them.
Here is a list of towns/years for which we have now Revision lists or some other lists:
    Vad Rashkov     1835, 1848
    Kaushany, Bendery uezd, 1835
    Ismail, 1835, Merchants
    Mogilev - Ataki, 1835, 1836,1848
    Brichany, 1835
    Lipkany, 1835
    Skulyany, Yassy uezd, Bessarabia, 1835, 1836, 1848
    Faleshty, 1835, 1836
    Khotin, 1835, 1836, 1850-1851
    Novoselitsa, 1835, 1850-1853
    Soroki, 1835
    Orgeev, 1849
    Teleneshty, 1849
Soroki colonies: Markuleshty, Mereshevka, Vertuzhany, Dombroveny, Lyublin 1848-1854
    Gancheshty, 1851
    Lomachinets, 1849-1854
    Kishinev, 1849, 1859, Additional, 1836-1838, Additional, 1828, Name list
    Beltsy, 1835
    Aleksandreny, 1858-1859
    Vadu-lui-Vlad, 1858-1859

If there is any interest in these records, please let me know, and hopefully volunteers will come forward to work on these records.
So far only one person started to work for Soroki, 1835.  I am looking forward to hear from you.

All the best,
