Searching info on Harry Berger NY, NY Birth Index 1918 10 July, 20 Nov and Harry Berger NY, NY Birth Index 1919 3 Mar.  I have not found any records to follow-up on these births. The parents of Harry I seek are Joseph and Bessie Berger and I have census records that include Harry from 1920-1940.

Thank You,

William Friedman (Born Berger 11-01-1933 and adopted). Joseph and Bessie are my grandparents. Harry is an uncle.

Is Haslavitsky a name or a city or something else? #ukraine

alan moskowitz

I was able to obtain information about my grandparents marriage record in 1908, in what is now Ukraine.  The information was translated by a qualified individual.  The bride's Hebrew name was listed, followed by "daughter of Leiba Bahrah" (her father was Leib, which I knew), followed by "Haslavitsky bourgeois, 20 years old, maiden" (presumably meaning never married).  A Google translation used the phrase "daughter of a Haslavite burgher" 20 years old etc.  I am not yet in possession of a copy of the original document - only a summary and translation of the key information.

If  "Haslavitsky"  is a name, then it has never surfaced until now.  If it is a city or shtetl, I have not found that.   Any thoughts would be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

Do you have Ben and Lottie GRABINER on your family tree?   I have done all the genealogical research – births, marriages censuses, deaths, cemeteries.  I found children’s names and many are deceased today.

I emailed some people who have public trees with those names.     So  far. I have not had a response from anyone.   Therefore trying this way

Do you have Ben and Lottie Grabiner from Chicago early 1900s on your family tree?

Re: How Weird Are We? #general

Madeleine Isenberg

Adding to what everyone else has posted, sometimes it just takes years to find people or for them to find you.  The late Stephanie WIENER and I met via Family Finder and she told me my great-grandfather, Isak GOLDMAN, had 4 sisters who had emigrated to the USA.  This was a complete surprise since no one in my GOLDMAN descendants knew anything about this.

I won't delve into other finds and other still unsolved mysteries, but again -- sometimes you have to just live long enough to either find the answers yourself or have someone else contact you.

In the meantime, I do what I can to help others, especially if they had family in the towns for which I created 6 KehilaLinks sites.  Then, I ask them for stories and photos of their families to make those available to other researchers.

If you haven't considered creating a KehilaLinks site for one that doesn't yet exist, I recommend that action.

Yes, we are weird!

Why anyone unloads their private family data and photographs onto any of these websites beats me. It is a sure fire way of disrespecting ones' ancestors and subjecting private data to theft, abuse and un-correctable distortion. There are plenty  of bullies, and abusers on these sites - as well as people who are simply ignorant, or thieves with not a shred of respect.  There are unfortunately a small handful of abusers (with the tens of thousands of supposed relatives) who cause 90% of the problems - and they need to be named. One of them, a prominent (and in other domains, a respected) individual, sent me loads of spam after I refused his advances.

Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish.so I perceive, it is pointless for me to join the meeting.

I am a nee Friedman  and I am researching my Friedman family.

I would love to connect with Anita Friedman even if it is only a slim probability that we --our roots--are connected.
I am a 'Yisroel'

Interestingly my late mother-in law was also a nee Friedman--a Bas Kohen

I would be thankful, if Anita Friedman could allocate time and

I wonder, does Anita Friedman speaks Hungarian?

Yes, I have experienced the same thing along with a fellow JewishGen member researching our family. In once case, the person in question had only a tangential connection to our family and nothing of value to offer.

This is one reason I never confirm MyHeritage "smart matches" without scrutinizing them first, if I do it at all, because like Ancestry's emails about ancestor hints, 90% of these messages (if not more) are recycling my own data. I suppose in both cases they are doing a service if even one-in-a-hundred proves valuable, but for the most part I regard these emails from MyHeritage and Ancestry the same as those you get on Linked in saying, "People are looking art your profile!"

MyHeritage Free Access to Irish Records Through March 18, 2021 #records

Jan Meisels Allen

MyHeritage announced FREE access to their Irish records collection through March 18, 2021—assume 11:59PM Central time as they did not provide a time zone.  MyHeritage’s Irish record collection includes around 14 million records of all kinds: census records, vital records, directories, wills, and much more.

To read their blog post go to: https://blog.myheritage.com/2021/02/search-all-irish-records-for-free-this-st-patricks-day/

Go to https://www.myheritage.com/research/catalog?location=Ireland You will be required to register with your name, email address and password. No credit card information will be requested.  When the site opens you will see the different record collections and the word FREE in green will be shown. Click on the collection and fill in the name of the person you are searching.   When the record appears you can download it to your computer by clicking on the down arrow in the upper right side or print it by clicking on the printer icon.

Jews in Ireland

While always a small Jewish community in Ireland it is an established community. In addition, a number of Jews immigrated to Ireland in the late 19th and 20th centuries whose families were from central Europe, due to the pogroms, and especially from Lithuania. Jews also stopped in Ireland along the way to immigrating to North America—and may have lived there for a few years.  You never know what an Irish record may reveal!

I have no affiliation with MyHeritage and am sharing this information solely for the interest of the reader.

I made my myheritage tree private.  I have a public tree (see the link at the bottom of my signature), but anyone who wants that information has to enter it by typing the information.  It is not that easy.  The main reason was not the one that you are asking about, but if I invite a guest to my site they can see all the information on living people, unlike Ancestry, where my tree is public and privacy is stricter.  And for people who want to see my tree, I invite them to my site, which has more than a tree.  It has photos, acknowledgements, dedication philosophy and links as well as the ability to do a nice search for someone.

In most cases there is nothing wrong with this, I add in families from other trees that are linked to families in my database as it often leads to discoveries of new relationships. Just to give you one example I kept collecting names for a family to which I had a distant connection to and as it grew I started to regret the time I devoted to it. However, in the end I discovered that so far I have 5 connections to this family.

I can also name a few people collect names as hobby and have ten
