Re: Genealogy in Belgium #general

Hi David,

I have done extensive research in the Netherlands and there is an invaluable resource for the Netherlands that seems to overlap with Belgium and offers searches within the State Archives of Belgium. I have found that their searches and particularly the advanced searches where you can specify the name of the person(s) you are searching for, in addition to their role (father, actual person, groom, etc), and also the place (which is probably what you would want). https://www.openarch.nl/search-ext.php

Hope it helps you,

has been written. Unfortunately, these PDFs don't allow text to be

a suitable OCR or Optical Character Recognition tool that would
render the text "copyable"? Does anyone know? Does anyone have
access to such a tool who could help me with this?
Thank you very much.

“How I Found My Third Great Grandfather”.

The Jewish Genealogical Society of Palm Beach County (JGSPBCI) will host a virtual presentation by Larry Schulman on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 1PM EST.  Larry will walk us through many years of developing his maternal family tree and how he came upon the “unique process” he noticed and followed — a method which unveiled many unknown family members and eventually led to the discovery of his third great grandfather born in 1801.  -For more information and a link, email Walter Rosenthal,  JGSPBCI Outreach Coordinator at waltrose864@...

Hi David,

Pascale did give a very good answer with these 2 official Ref, I would add the website of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Belgium (JGSB or CGJB in French) I give give you the URL (text available in English) : www. jgsbelgium.be/en/home/be

But maybe it's possible to tell you – or even do for you – more : what could be your question(s) about those « members of a BOCHNER family » : where did they live (ANTWERP ? BRUSSELS ? LIEGE ? CHALEROI ? other places ? ) ? at approximately which time ? are there further precisions available about their first names or relationship between themselves ? are there data available about possible burying places ? and so on.

People could move without changing their place of official registration. They were listed in revision lists according to where they were registered, and in metrical books (births, deaths, marriages, divorces) and the 1897 census according to where they lived.

Hi Joyaa,
one thing I did in the past was to use free site file converters such as https://convertio.co
I would convert from PDF to HTML, making copying the text an easy task. I had good results with the resulting html formatting.

Hi Salmo,
a good (free) resource is FamilySearch's Brazilian Rio de Janeiro Immigration Cards. Although restricted to Rio de Janeiro, if you do not know from where did they enter Brazil, it's worth a try.

Ron
I am sorry, but the ways that different searches change over the ages are unknown to this ordinary mortal.   However, I would suggest that that the Bishopsgate Institute files on www.bishopsgate.org.uk could be of help.  They seem to have almost everything relating to the Jewish London, especially of the East End (actually more the East and North wrap round The City).
I have found them as helpful as Amsterdam, Leeuwarden or Groningen

David,
Thank you. I am aware of the changes to the area and the various street name changes (e.g. South Street to Chiswell Road to Finsbury Place to Finsbury square, and nowadays Finsbury Park) that took place. However, it is still not clear to me why data previously produced through the  Unified Search as shown by my pdf file no longer comes forward.
