Hungary Town Name Question for William Farkas (Fergus) Gottlieb married to Mollie (Minnie?) Einhorn #records #usa #hungary

finejeffy@...

Can anyone clarify the town name in this naturalization document and maybe if it currently exists. Maybe this is the matching person referenced via LDS. Seems like Farkas(h) maybe got transformed to Fergus.

Thanks,

Stolen from a Jewishgen reply from 10 years ago:

Genendel is a variation of the Old High German word Genana, which means
grandmother or old woman. It is an amuletic name which means it is given
for good luck, as in "may this child live for many years."

You do not mention how long your document is.  If it is only two or three pages, you can post them on ViewMate (each page as a separate post), under "German-translation", and mention in your comments that you would also like a transcription.

Re: Why would 2 neighboring states issue death certificates for the same individual? #usa #general

hirschj154@...

It would be helpful to also know what causes of death were and were they similar, when DC were issued as procedures change over time, what DC say about place of death, place of burial, etc. does one say remains were removed from jurisdiction, etc

Seeking info on Erna Christine WOLETZ DEHNE (nee Schulz) #germany #holocaust

Myra Fournier

Erna Christine WOLETZ DEHNE (nee SCHULZ) was born in Eigenfeld, Germany on August 25, 1931. She married my 1st cousin Wolfgang DEHNE (nee KLAPPHOLZ) in Helbra, Germany on March 22, 1985. They were divorced on January 17, 1989.  Erna resumed her prior married name WOLETZ on May 3, 1991.
Wolfgang was born in Magdeburg, Germany in March 5, 1934. He was placed in a Christian orphanage when his parents were deported to Auschwitz in 1943. He  subsequently grew up in a foster family (Gustav DEHNE) and changed his surname legally to Dehne in the 1950s. Wolfgang died in Magdeburg on August 2, 2012.
Wolfgang was previously married to Hannelore MOLLT in Magdeburg on June 17, 1967.  They divorced on June 9, 1971.
I do not know whether either former wife is still alive, or whether he and his first wife had children.
Can you help?
Thanks.

Seeking contact info for American artist Mark GROTJAHN #holocaust #general #usa

Myra Fournier

The celebrated American artist Mark Grotjahn is the great-grandson of Dr. Gyula Grosz who lived at Kantstrasse 12 in Magdeburg, Germany in the 1940s.  That is the same house where my cousins Alfred, Else, and Wolfgang Klappholz lived at the time.  I am trying to find as much information about the Klappholzes as I can, and thought that Mark might know some family stories that included them.  I have been unable to find Mark's email address on FB or via Google (I do not use other social media). I have emailed several museums and galleries where Mark has displayed his pieces, in the hope that they would put us in touch.  So far, no response.
Can you help?
Thanks,

Morning to you...I just spotted this posting now,so hopefully my reply may help you.
I live in South Africa and Greece up here. I used to know a few people by the name of Reznik or Resnick who obviously originated from a similar place in Russia or Ukraine in those days. Have you tried any follow ups from there?one never knows.
Best wishes

Re: Help reading a gravestone #translation

David,

The name in front of Michel is Yechiel, or may be in more 'official' but rather unused English, Jehiel.

As to the the Hebrew date it should be Kaf b'Kislev 5703, which would be 29 November 1942.

Does by a chance your Levine have any connection to Levine in Newburgh, NY, from the Q1 of the 20th century?

Re: Help reading a gravestone #translation

David Conway

the 3 Hebrew words above the deceased name are ish tom vyoshor which come from the description of Job in the first sentence of Chapter1,meaning according to the Soncino text that he was a man without moral blemish and upright
