If you go to the google play store search for and you will find their app.
It is OK. Not as feature rich as ftm 2019.
You can log in and download your tree to the tablet.

Moses and Isaac OPPENHEIMER from Battenberg/Battenfeld/Berghofen #germany

Fred Half

Hello all,

I am trying to find other people who have the subject family in their tree. Moses OPPENHEIMER is my gggrandfather. I know that Moses OPPENHEIMER was born 25 September 1840 supposedly in Battenberg (but could have been anywhere in the small towns of that area) the son of Isaac and Nannie (nee DRUCKER) OPPENHEIMER. Isaac is buried in Pittsburgh, PA, the tombstone having the dates 1801-1890. I don't know anything else about Nannie. Moses supposedly came to the US in about 1860 and by 2 June 1869 was in Pittsburgh, PA because he married Julia FRANK on that date. I have complete data of his three children but am looking for information about his father Isaac, mother Nannie, uncles or aunts (know of one brother K(C)oppel) and especially siblings. From some research a cousin did in Germany, there seems to not be any records in Marburg.

He had seven siblings; three brothers (Ben, Henry, and Saul) and four sisters (Bertha(Bette), Henrietta(Yetta), Setta, Amalia(Mollie)). All the siblings were born outside the US (locations unknown).

Married, is buried in Pittsburgh, PA. Had four children (Daniel W, Jacob, Nora, and Bertha L). Bertha died in infancy in 1870. Daniel (d 1929) and Jacob (d 1937) are buried in Pittsburgh, PA. Do not know anything else. Nora married and descendants are named SPEYER and SUNSTEIN.

Bertha (Bette)

Bertha married Herman SCHEUR and other descendant names are JACOBY, BLUMENTHAL, CUDEN, & AURBACH

Married Amanda ELLINGER from Baltimore, MD. They had four children (Sidney, William, Nan, and Olive). Know nothing about Sidney, William died in 1916 and is buried in Pittsburgh, PA, Nan never married and died in 1929 and is buried in Pittsburgh, PA. Olive married Max OBORNDORF and had descendants named GREENBAUM and SOULE.

Henrietta (Yetta)

Married Meyer AMBERG and also had descendants named KOCH, BERKMAN, BROIDO, CANT, & ROSENTHAL

Married Moses ARNOLD. Buried in Pittsburgh, PA

Amalia (Mollie)

Married Moses HERZOG and had three girls Daisy, Mae, and Nannie. Nannie died in infancy and other descendants are named LEVY, DE ROY, & RASCHBAUM. Buried in Pittsburgh, PA

Know nothing.

This information is being posted to Early American and German Sig. Any information on descendants or ancestors would be appreciated. Please respond privately unless useful to a broader audience. Thanks in advance.

moving from Family Tree Maker to a program for a Samsung galaxy Tablet #general

I have used Family Tree Maker for years on my laptop, but that is no longer possible and I am using Samsung's Galaxy A tablet which is android, not windows. FTM does not run on android.  I have my tree on My Heritage and on Ancestry, but my most complete version is on FTM.  I know that I can save data in gedcom, but am not sure how complete that is.  I need a program that will run on android and load all of the .FTMB data.  Are there any suggestions?

Also, can one link the Ancestry tree and/or the My Heritage tree to the FTM information?  It would be so nice to work with only one genealogy program and that that one be the complete one.

Re: Austro-Hungarian army records? #galicia #poland #hungary #records #austria-czech

Andreas Schwab

JRI Poland has indexed the records for these places.
However, 1932 is too recent, the records are not available online for the general public, and 1857 is too early for Sambor, records start at 1862. Maybe there are marriage records or records for the children.

Austro-Hungarian army records? #galicia #poland #hungary #records #austria-czech

My great grandfather was a conductor, conscripted in the Austro-Hungarian army.
He was born in 1857, Sambor, now Ukraine, and died in 1932, Przemysl, now Poland.
Does anyone know where I might find such a record?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions,

Tanya Roland

Please consult both Neighbors: The Destruction of the Jewish Community in Jedwabne, Poland by Jan T. Gross and the more recent The Towns of Death: Pogroms Against the Jews by Their Neighbors by Mirosław Tryczyk and me (the translat0r). You will find that there was a peripheral German participation in the burning of Jedwabne Jews in a barn. The pogroms were organized and carried out by the Polish neighbors. Similar pogroms in another dozen localities around Jedwabne are described and discussed as well the historical, religious, and political background for the events.

"The fact is that the Germans burnt the Jewish population in that barn. " No, it was the Poles who murdered the Jews and burned them alive in the barn.

ViewMate Challenge: Dating a old list of names #galicia #translation

Yaron Wolfsthal

Dear Group, this is a difficult one - old polish text in Latin style !

Pls see this:

It's a cover page of a list of peasants in the Galician town of Husiatyn (Tarnopol District).

I'm asking for help in translating this, and even more I am very interested in DATING this document.

While there's a date ("1789") in the text, the bottom of the page seems to say "1843".  The translation of the text may help figure this out. Is this an 1789 document?     or an 1789-18XX document?

Thank you very much.

Re: SAIONZ family in Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA #poland #russia #usa

David Ziants

Thank you Dianne for the tip. I wasn't fully using alternate spellings/soundex etc when searching the name. Someone off list helped me with this, and I now have her grave stone photo:-

The patronymic is rendered Melech rather than Elimelech as on Simon's stone - but these are essentially the same name (with Elimelech being more formal).

Now, am wondering whether their brother, Victor, whose name appears on the manifest (actually 1909 and not 1919 a correction a second time), changed his family name to ZION - in which case Molly would have been his wife and this appears on census and other records this way. Then he died 1960.Yet, we have a Victor ZAJONE (d 1946) in Pennsylvania Death Index, 1906-1964

Name Victor Zajone

Death Jan 11 1946;   Philadelphia

Certificate number 10101

For the grave stone of Victor Zion who died in 1960, I would need to contact the cemetery for the location of the grave, so I can fill in a request on Find-a-grave etc.. There seems to be less information around concerning the one who died in 1946.

Thank you for your continued input.
