Re: Deutsch family tree on Geni going back to the 14th century #hungary

Unfortunately Deutsch was a pretty common last name, hence the difficulties and the clumping together of different families.
I myself appear to be a blood relative on Geni via my GM, Rozalia Deutsch, but who knows if that's true :)  "Anna Hentsche AUERBACH (Rosenberg) is your 9th cousin thrice removed."

Dear Mr. Stupay:

Your post is of interest to me for two reasons:
`
1 - My great great grandfather (born c. 1850) was Kalman Zlatkin.
2 - I listened to Kalman Kinnory's performance of a work by Joseph Achron (youtube) and his performance is superb, in the great tradition of [Jewish] string playing. I know because I come from a family of highly successful [Jewish] classical musicians.

Though I know little about Kalman Zlatkin, other than his name, I have a good friend, who is Hungarian, and felt it might have Hungarian roots.

Hope this is of interest, and, good luck!

Frederick Zlotkin

Re: Removing Picture From a Find A Grave Page. #general

In my opinion it's a simple matter.  You need to take over the site by requesting a transfer of her site from Athanatos https://www.findagrave.com/user/profile/46907585 who is currently maintaining it to yourself and state in the request that you are her son.

Athanatos says that " transfer requests, and other changes not addressable in the drop-down system, send by "other" SAC. ❤ When requesting a transfer please give a reason for your interest."

After you take ownership of the site you are in charge and I would think you can remove the picture...

Thanks for the comments! Does anyone have a rough sense of the sources so I can begin corroborating? In other cases where Jewish genealogies go back so far in time, I’ve found the records are generally rabbinic and documented by Neil Rosenstein’s The Unbroken Chain. In this case, I can’t find the connection.

Hi Arthur,
I don't know exactly what kind of information you're looking for. There are some Google entries in Hebrew and in English about Kalman.
Kalman was born to Hersz Hermann (Zvi) Skrzypce (Polish word which means violin, Kinor in Hebrew) in 1923 and passed away in March 4, 2009 in New York. His brother, David Solomon passed away in 2007 in California and is buried in Jerusalem. Kinnory family tree is partially available at Geni, https://www.geni.com/search?search_type=people&names=kinnory. one of his children, Shalom is a musician who lives in Israel.

I was not asking about your criteria; I was asking a more basic question about what you mean by the word "Sephardic." The word has a strict meaning of "Jews of medieval Iberia (=Sepharad) and their descendants," but it is also widely used to mean "Jews of Muslim countries and their descendants," which includes Sepharadim in the strict sense but also Jews of North Africa, the Near East, and Central Asia. Are you using the word in the strict sense or the broad sense?

Hello Reinier

Not very helpful but nevertheless...

I took a look at the manifest arriving from Brussels - this was not a ship but a SABENA flight arriving in La Guardia Airport in NY.
According to this record he held a Polish passport, not a Belgian one. See attached.

There is a link in the USHM: https://www.ushmm.org/online/hsv/source_view.php?SourceId=31011 (List of children at Children's Home Wesembeck-Ophem [sic], 200 Choe de Malines / submitted by the World Jewish Congress, 1835 Broadway, (ID: 31011)). Maybe you can see if the World Jewish Congress has any records of adoptions.

Good luck on your search,

If you added the name of the deceased and the name of the son who disinterred him along with the son's place of residence in 1963 it might strike a chord with someone.

I was in touch with a sales person for the Mt Nebo - Kendall cemetery there there but they did not inherit any records from the old place. Would someone know where the records are? I read a similar post here the other day about a different defunct funeral home that stated that the records went to the Jewish Society of that state or county. Would it be the same for Florida? Can anyone direct me please?

There is only one grand daughter alive but she does not know where he is buried. His brother is buried in the Zhashkower Society in Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Queens but he himself is not there.

I already checked Find a grave, Billiongraves, asked at his son's cemetery in Roxbury, Massachusetts and around Spring Valley, NY, where my relative lived. I also sent an email to Division of Funeral, Cemetery, and Consumer Services in Florida but they don't keep such old records.

Thank you in advance,

I believe this was the case for my great-uncle as well. He was from Berlin: his mother was Jewish but father was likely Catholic. I know that he survived as there are documents in his name from West Germany in the mid-1980's, however I've never been able to track him down beyond those brief and dead-end records. He was conscripted in 1944, when the regime was at its most desperate.

I have read the book, but wish it was a bit easier to research this stuff online. Maybe it will be for my children, at least...?
