Re: Holocaust Denial - a Polish movie aimed at denying the Jedwabne massacre #holocaust

pweinthal

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I looked at both websites. This is just another in a series of actions to deny and hide the anti-Semitic massacres, abuse, and property seizures that occurred in Poland with Polish complicity during WW2.

At a time when so many stressful events are competing for attention, it is hard to focus on any one. I've discussed this with others. If you use social media, here is a response that isn't difficult or time-consuming to do.

The movie was uploaded to YouTube. In a span of 4 days, "Powrót do Jedwabnego" by director Wojciech Sumliński has been viewed over 250,000 times with thousands of Likes. It also appears on Facebook.

If you have an account on Youtube, look up links to the movie, give it a 'thumbs down' rating and Flag it for violating the Terms of Service.

If you have an account on Facebook, search for the film and Report the Video. I reported it twice: first for False information > Social Issue, then again for Hate Speech > Religious Affiliation.

Posts that deny or distort the Holocaust are now prohibited on Facebook and YouTube. There still is a lot of ant-Semitic content on these sites, but if you don't push back there will be a lot more.

Share news about the movie and this suggestion to your email lists, friends, temple, etc. It's deadly to turn a blind eye to this. Revisionist history goes hand in glove with authoritarian regimes.

Seeking any descendants of Herscu Grinberg/Aprivei #romania #general

sacredsisters1977@...

Hi All
If you are descended of Herscu Greenberg, please contact me. He was born about 1816 and resided in Hertza dorohoi Romania. I only have records of one son Chaim of which had a few children. I am a descendant of one of those. I am trying to find the mystery siblings of Chaim. Chaim had Abraham, Henia, Joseph, and Brantza. So if this sounds familiar to you please let me know. Chaim would have been about 1840- 1850's, so any siblings would have been born in those years or after. Any information is helpful. I have already had research done and the information I have is from those survived records which leaves a lot of gaps.

Torah scroll the Nazis Stole for their post-Holocaust 'Jewish museum' Returns to Service in Prague #austria-czech #holocaust

Jan Meisels Allen

A Torah scroll that the Nazis stole from a Czech congregation on display at The Memorial Scrolls Trust in London. (Courtesy of the European Union for Progressive Judaism)

A Torah scroll that the Nazis stole from for their planned museum on Judaism in Prague will return to use there later this month.  Memorial Scrolls Trust, a London-based nonprofit that preserves Torah scrolls and other scripture, on Sunday said it will transfer scroll no. 1052, as it is catalogued there, to the use of Ec Chaim, a Progressive Jewish congregation in the Prague.

History

In 1942, the Nazis seized the scroll, which was written in 1890 in Brno, a city situated about 100 miles southeast of Prague. They had the scroll shipped to the Central Jewish Museum, an institution that they wanted to use to showcase thousands of liturgical objects they had stolen from Jewish communities they pillaged. That museum has become the Jewish Museum of Prague, which is owned by the local Jewish community.

WEINTRAUB, BARTNOFSKY in Mogilev, Belarus #belarus

Marcia Lloyd

Looking for information, particularly photos, for anyone with the above surnames. My paternal grandfather, Jacob, came to Brooklyn in 1902. His wife, Bessie Bartnofsky, came over with their children, including my father, Aron (whose name may have been changed to Harry by then), in, I think, 1903 or 1904. They lived on Rodney Street in Brooklyn.

I’ve never seen any photos of these grandparents and never met them, nor have I ever seen any photos of my father as a boy. Any information at all would be appreciated. During W.W.I, my father changed his last name to WINTHROP to avoid being accused of being German.

Best,
Marcia Lloyd

Re: death certificate of Mahle Scwarcz, marriage certificate of Yette Scwarcz and Pinkas Kurzer #poland

Stanley Diamond

Przeworsk Marriage records did not survive.

Przeworsk Death records only survived for the years 1838, 1880-1911, 1913-1914, 1921-1936
These records have been indexed by JRI-Poland but are not online

The death of Mahle (written Male in the record) was registered under Akt 26 in 1905.

death certificate of Mahle Scwarcz, marriage certificate of Yette Scwarcz and Pinkas Kurzer #poland
From: rottenberg
Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2021 10:29:27 EDT

I'm doing a genealogy search about my family. They lived at the end of 19th century
and beginning of 20th century in Przeworsk.

Between september 1905 and november 1905 2 events took place :
  • Przeworsk, September 3rd 1905 : death of my great grandmother Malhe Schwarcz
  • Przeworsk, October or November 1905 : wedding of her daughter Yetta Schwarcz with Pincas Kurzer from Oleszyce.
I sent in this mail a copy of the marriage certificate in poor condition.

Can you tell me how I can get a copy of both certificates ?

I have tried unsuccessfully at Przemysl archives (https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/)

Thank you very much for your advice.
Best regards

Boston US Synagogue Records 1886 #records

Dave Smith

Hello
I believe I have at last located the marriage certificate of my great grandfather & grandmother. It took place in Boston US in 1886. The reason why it could not be found before is that descendants have believed that his name was Hyman Cohen, which he later used on official documents. (His wife was Rachel Simon.)  However, I have found that the entry is indexed correctly under Rachel's name but his name was indexed as forename Joseph H. and surname hausman / hauaman. (In the UK 1911 census he later calls himself Joseph Cohen.) I suspect that this entry in the marriage index may be in part due to language difficulties as he only arrived in the US in 1884 direct from Russia (Poland). Obviously in order to follow this new lead up further I need to know what his actual name was. In the UK apart from the official copy of the marriage as registered at the General Register Office there is a Synagogue copy of the marriage authorisation. Was a similar practice operated in the US at this time? If so, I thought it may be helpful to obtain a copy of this marriage authorisation which would be written in his natural language and be a much more reliable indicator of his name. Can anyone please help me in locating such a document? On the birth certificate of his son, Julius, in 1889 he lists his name as Hyman Cohen (as he does on many later official documents) when the birth occurred at 17 Rochester, Boston which may help if there was more than one Synagogue at the time. Many thanks!

Re: Austrian Citizenship #austria-czech

oliverdmarshall@...

This may depend on what’s behind your question. It was certainly correct that your mother would have been considered to be a Polish citizen by birth and that she would only have become an Austrian citizen had her father naturalised. But I understand that your mother may now, under the new law allowing descendants of people who fled Austria due to Nazi persecution to claim Austrian citizenship, be considered to be de facto Austrian. If that’s something that interests you and any other descendants of your mother, you should send a query to the Consular Section of the Austrian Embassy in Washington DC.
