Re: How Do I Access JRI Poland #poland #records

Helen

I'm not sure I understand Stanley's response.  There is, in fact, a required donation to each town in order to receive offline records/indexes. I understand Sana Loue's question and I face the same issue.  I fully understand and respect the need for donations, but it is difficult for researchers who don't know which towns to search.  Maybe all off-line records could be behind one paywall and with one donation we can have access all available records.

Thanks,
Helen Gonzales

Re: Identify Ancestral town in Latvia abandoned 1893 #latvia

John Yaffe <jlyaffe@...>

Thanks for the hints.  I did find the coordinates of the Milestibas Salina (57:04 N 24:02 E) which is about 7 miles NW of Riga.   Few settlement names from the 19th century were to be found.  But I will continue.

I am aware of that larger naval centre ... but my grandparents referred to their home town as near Riga, while Liepaja is over 100 miles away.
And a cousin who emigrated to Israel 30 years ago spent time at the Holocaust Centre and did say that the town was sacked twice... Once in the1890's and again 15 years later.   That's why I was looking for anyone familiar with the Jeans Factory since it had been in operation for 60 years or so at least.   I also noticed from the maps that there is another military base ESE of Riga that I will also investigate.     But I still have not found birth records of my great-grandparents or their children. Hard to find any web sites with historical information about Jews in Latvia in the 19th century.

I believe I can help expand a little bit on what David Rosen pointed out and was able to make out: "Dr certified old arm wound fracture right arm. Marked deformation both wrists + .... and on fingers of the hands, which affect hands." It appears that the last word, "hands," was already written in the column "Marks of Identification" prior to the added notation and expanded upon that original notation.

Hope this helps.

I suspect you may have seen an unsourced and highly questionable family tree posted online. I think your chance of proving that lineage may be somewhere close to zero. While not legally qualified, I suspect the chances of receiving citizenship based on such a claim are even lower.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Best wishes,

Looking for transcripts from nazi court in Radom/Krakow 1942 #poland #records

Alex Guri

Hi all,

My grandmother's brother was caught in May 1942 outside the ghetto without the wrist band and put on trial in a Nazi court in Radom/Krakow, Poland. I have some letters sent between his lawyer and my family.

Does anyone know whether transcripts of such court sessions were recorded and if they're available anywhere (online or offline)? Any idea where I might find them?

Many thanks,
Alex Guri

Seeking descendants of Zimra Pinkesz #poland #usa #general

Rose

Dear Group

I am the niece of the late Sonia Orlig/Orlik formerly Zylberstein, who was born in Kalisz, Poland in June 1913. I have been researching the Zylberstein family for many years and have recently discovered that I have a first cousin in Brooklyn, New York. According to the records I've found my cousin's name is Zimra PINKESZ, the daughter of Sonia and Hersz Orlik/Pearl.

I would love to get in touch with Zimra or her descendants if anyone knows this family.

Best wishes,

Rose Raymen

Are you aware of the SI notation in the first column of the first page?  Hyman was the subject of a Board of Special  Inquiry  hearing. See the manifest on Ancestry.com. image 88 0f 89.  He failed the initial immigration inspection for LPC  (Likely Public Charge) and needed a Dr. Certificate. He was deported on July 31  aboard the Baltic.
As for the added handwriting:  It starts "Dr. Cert. Old arm ..... right arm ....   " Very hard to make out more.    It might mean that he had an issue with his right arm that the medical staff said would limit his ability to earn a living and that he would become a likely public charge.

Re: Bessarabia Revision Lists #bessarabia

Dr. Teodoro S. Kaufman

Dear Yefim,
I am puzzled about the 1910 revision lists. There is a whole KOFMAN family detailed in a 1910 list found in JG. They are the descendants of Lipe Kofman (the list spans over a whole century). However, as far as I know, the following members of this list were already in Argentina at that time: Nehama (wife of Shmuel), Elya (Elias), Shlema (Salomon), Lipa (Luis) and Chaya Malka. I wonder how was this possible. Thanks in advance for your consideration
Sincerely
Teodoro Kaufman

Chudnov Researcher for Goltzman Family #ukraine

MARLISE GROSS

I am looking for a researcher in Chudnov (https://www.jewishgen.org/Communities/community.php?usbgn=-1037412) who can help me find records from 1900 to 1943.  My newly discovered second cousin, once removed, is a child of the Holocaust and I am helping her family identify who her parents were.  She remembers her mother's name was Tzilia.  From DNA, I know she is related to my Goltzman family.  The other names that are matching in DNA and Chudnov are Reimer, Izes, and Solomon.  I have made connections with US based descendants of these families, but what I really need are records from the time period when she was born and her parents were married.

I have potentially identified the mother on Yad Vashem as Tzilya Goltzman.  Conversing with the descendant of the testimony writer uncovered that the death information was based on second hand knowledge, and whether or not Goltzman was her married or maiden name is unknown.  https://yvng.yadvashem.org/index.html?language=en&s_id=&s_lastName=goltzman&s_firstName=&s_place=chudniv&s_dateOfBirth=&cluster=true

I would appreciate information on where the records that I need are located, if at all, and if there is a knowledgeable researcher in that area who can do a search for me for these documents.

Thank you,
Marlise Gross
