Dear Ron,
I was very interested to see that you are researching the Levins in London in the early1800s.  Was your Meyer Levin the son of Leib Levin (b 1783 Poland or Prussia - d 1863 London), JewishGen ID 7649.

If so, I wonder whether he could be a cousin of my ancestors, the brothers/half-brothers Zadick (1786-1848), William Charles (1779-1860) and James Henry Levin (1780-1857).  Their father was Henry Levin (no information).  Both William Charles and James Henry were born in East Prussia (James Henry in Koenigsberg).  The three brothers arrived in London around 1800 and there are documents listing them as merchants based in Great Prescott Street in 1800-1802 - Zadick was at no 46.  Meyer Levin took out an insurance policy at 68, Great Prescott Street in the 1810s.  Is this just a coincidence?

Hi Kathy,
I think other people have given you links to prettier maps.  But if your question is about tracking movements, I have found Google Maps to be very effective.  Sometimes in my family from Austria Hungary I have had to find the Slovakian name of the town (or used the name in the current language of the place) to find the town. But then I can get directions from one place to another, and the roads will show on a map that I can snip as Maryellen described.

In one case, when I changed the directions to "Walking Directions" the route completely changed.  Apparently there are still paths thru mountains where cars can not go!

The SS personal files are at the U.S. National Archives on microfilm and the Berlin Document Center.  The microfilm is available to anyone who goes there but I don't know about access to the Berlin Document Center originals.

Yes,  It is possible that your town is included in the list.  If you can recognize the town name in Cyrillic, you can look at the documents through the Family Search Website by looking for Krakovsky documents.

Hello everybody,

I have already sent a post about 2022 conference to the group asking about topics of interest and if someone would like to present for our Bessarabia group...  and got 1 response from a person who always was at the conference, and would love to go again - thank you.

I did plan to go to that conference,  and now I am not sure.  If only one from Bessarabia group is coming, and there is no interest in any topics, probably no reason to come....?!

Call for Proposals for 2022 conference is now open...  and the deadline for submission is Sunday, November 21.

If anyone is still interested to present on some topic or let us know about your research, ups and downs of it - that would be of interest to our group... Please let me know.

This map is about Neumark, the Region. From neu = new and Mark = border state. Neumarkt is from neu and Markt  = market or market town. In Polish, Nowy = new and targ = market.
The OP wanted to find a town, not a region. Also, the Neumark region was in Prussia, not Austria-Humgary.

On her grandmother's gravestone, it is spelled ריבא.
On her mother's gravestone, her mother's name is written ריווא.
It also has been written ריבה.

Having just done a grave search for a request, it had been a bit of a puzzle: the footstone was located in the plot owner's grave, perhaps a common occurrence?  So it's important to know the grave owner's name, as well as the person you're trying to locate.
