Searching BRZESKOWSKI - Poland #general

AviDov@...

My grandfather, Shlomo Dovid Brzeskowski was born in 1850 in Wroclavek,a small
town on the Vistula River about 120 miles East of Poznan. His parents were
Yitzchak and Feyge Yitta.
He was orphaned at an early age and adopted by POZNANSKI relatives who later
took the surname POSNER in the USA.,as he also later did here.

He married Gittel MEIZNER and they came with children, to NJ about 1907 to
accept the pulpit of Congregation Tiffereth Israel where he served until his
death in 1935.

While still in Poland he was a Mizrachi delegate to the 5th Zionist Congress
in Basel and
I have transcribed his remarks there, which I found at the Central Archives in
Jerusalem.

I am now beginning to search for links to his birth family, BRZEWSKOWSKI and
welcome
any and all suggestions and references.

Marc A. Polster <Marc.Polster@...>

Hello H-SIGers,

L'Shanah Tovah to you all and best regards for a year of
happiness, contentment and peace.

It's been several months since we launched the H-SIG
website. I'd like any suggestions you have for improving
it. Any comments are welcome. What would make it more
useful/interesting for you?

It's been a very busy season for me especially because I
moved and I'm still spending much time trying to find "lost"
items in a basement full of boxes. Most importantly, my
e-mail address has changed (it might change again soon):
e-mail me now at marc.polster@worldnet.att.net.

Also, I linked us with the Jewish Webring as you can see on
our home page. You might find that interesting so check it
out.

Finally, L'Shanah Tova to you all and best regards for a
year of happiness, contentment, peace and breakthroughs in
your research.

Marc Polster,
H-SIG Webmaster

David,

I couldn't locate, nor have I heard of a location called Tusnad. The
location is probably Tasnad which is 107 km NW of Cluj (aka as Kolosvar and
Klausenberg). There is a Yizkor book for Tasnad which you can find at Yad
Vashem.

In response to a request by Jeanne Gold.
Pronunciation of names by our ancestors and their spelling did not always
match. Therefore, you may want to check: GOLDGLIT, GOLDGLIDT, and yes, even
GOLDGLATT. Also, the maiden name of your Great-Grandmother may provide
further information. You may want to consider that their marriage did not take
place in Ohio but rather in New York. Good Luck.

SS St. Louis, 1939, Voyage of The Damned. Can you help? #general

Bernard Kouchel <koosh@...>

SS St. Louis, 1939, Voyage of The Damned. Can you help?
In 1939 the United States denied entrance to a shipful of European Jews.

The SS St. Louis sailed >from Hamburg to Cuba with 937 Jews. When
admission was refused, the ship idled off the United States coast, in an
effort to find a haven. Many of the stateless refugees were sent back to
Germany, and ultimately perished in the Holocaust.

Anyone with information on the fate of any of the passengers on the St.
Louis should contact:

Re: Searching Yitchuck Gutvein #general

Dear Jewishgenners,

In message #10, Sept.17, 1998, Gayle Riley asked about finding Yitchuck
Gutvein, the author of "Memory of my Shtetl, Dzkow." I can't help her with
that search except to tell her to write to Elsa Drezner who just might know,
since she lives in France and only a month ago asked Jewishgenners about the
book. Perhaps she has learned about the author and his family since then. Her
email address is EDrezner@aol.com.

Ms. Riley also asked whether there is a Yizkor book on Tarnobrzeg. There
is, as I wrote in my response to Ms. Drezner's Jewishgen message. It is:

Kehilat Tarnobrzeg-Dzikow (Galicia ha-ma-aravit) [The Community of Tarnbrez-
Dzikow (Western Galicia)]. Ed Yaakov Yehoshua Fleishder. Tel Aviv: Tarnobrzeg-
Dzikow Society, 1973, 379 pp., illus.

Naomi Fatouros

BELKOWSKY of Tel-Aviv, Odessa, Kiev, Moscow, Berdichev; LEVY, WEIL, WILLARD
of Mulhouse, Altkirch, Seppois le Bas, Alsace; FELDMAN of "Chelsetz?" (
Kulczyce or Kulchitse or Kulcici?), near L'viv; MEEROVNA of Berdichev(?);
RAPPAPORT or RAPOPORT of Jaffa, Palestine, Podvolochisk and Ternopil; SAS, of
Podwolochisk; ROTHSTEIN, LIBERMAN >from Kiev and Moscow; ZUSMAN or SUSSMAN of
