My guess is that since he was jewish he was not officially named until after his circumcision on his 8th day, which would make sense (October 23 would be the day after his circumcision).

What you say about naming and circumcision makes a lot of sense to me too.  In the orthodox tradition, one doesn't say what the boys name will be until it's officially announced by the father during the ceremony.
You don't say which document it is "confirming his date of birth".

My GF and his brother, about 18 months apart in age, were both registered on the day in the Tomaszow Mazovietski birth register.

I would hesitate making sweeping general statements about "Europe".
There were major differenced in regulations and customs between different countries, and probably within them as well.
A small village in Belarus (yes that' s Europe)  did not necessarily register births the way they were registered in Vienna (Europe too...).

Igor Perriman, Secular Head of the Ivano-Frankivsk Community Has Been Stabbed #galicia #ukraine

Steven Turner

Frightening news out of Ivano-Frankivsk today. Our good friend Igor has been stabbed. Thank G-d he seems to be ok. First reports that we saw of this news on facebook with facebook translate said that he was stabbed and killed. Further translation showed that what was really said was that he was stabbed 3 times.

My wife called Rabbi Kolesnik. He said that Igor was on the street outside the synagogue handing out food when someone came up and stabbed him. Motive now is unknown - whether it was antisemitic or not. The perpetrator has been caught. Rabbi Moyshe Kolesnik said that there are now 40k refugees in the town and people are just going crazy. Maybe this was just a crazy person or maybe not.

My wife sent a refuah shlemah from all of Gesher Galicia to Igor and that we wish that he makes a full and speedy recovery.

The latest news is that the attacker turned himself in and has expressed regret for his actions. Police are on the case. Igor apparently suffered only soft tissue wounds and is out of the hospital at home resting.

A Ukrainian news report of the attack can be found here:

https://www.unian.ua/incidents/direktor-yevreyskoji-gromadi-ivano-frankivska-otrimav-tri-nozhovi-poranennya-novini-ukrajina-11767222.html?fbclid=IwAR2dPy65qM02LvEPT-TzljilPxGfALICZSInOqZ8D5dnQS1qGIO56JvxuiU

It is in Ukrainian. In English it says:

"The director of the Jewish community of Ivano-Frankivsk received three stab wounds

Violetta Orlova

The attack was accompanied by anti-Semitic remarks, all of which took place in front of numerous witnesses.

The director of the Ivano-Frankivsk Jewish community was attacked. Igor Perelman received three stab wounds right in the city center.

This was reported in the official channel of the United Jewish Community of Ukraine (UNU) in the Telegram.

The director of the Jewish community was attacked on the afternoon of March 31. In the center of Ivano-Frankivsk on Belvedere Street, Igor Perelman was stabbed three times.

"The attack was accompanied by anti-Semitic statements by numerous witnesses. The identity of the attacker has been established in advance. The United Jewish Community of Ukraine wishes Igor Perelman a speedy recovery. A helmet refua!"

Regarding birth dates.  I wonder if the birth was recorded in temple records based on the Jewish calendar date provided by the midwife?

The symbol at the top of the stone is a candlabra, a symbol for a Jewish woman.
I believe her Hebrew given name translates as Henya rather than Hannah.   Otherwise you did a great job in translating.

Re: Historical NY court cases circa 1915 #records #usa

In general, the majority of inaccessible records relate to divorce and adoption.  The location of the defendant determines the location of the litigation. So, if the Ashs lived in Brooklyn, the case would have been determined in Brooklyn. Civil cases of this nature would have been in the Kings County Supreme Court. Similarly if the Ashs lived in Manhattan, the case would have been in the New York Supreme Court. Regardless, you should look up the telephone number of the County Clerk to find out where the records are held.

Hi Judy,

It will help to know that Koidanov is today called Dzyarzhynsk, Belarus.

For more info on Dzyarzhynsk, and databases to search:

For more info on Marijampolė, and databases to search:

I suggest using phonetic and/or soundex searches on surnames.  Names get spelled in variant ways in the records.

You can also search databases such as FamilySearch.org or Ancestry.com to trace your family through U.S. census records, naturalization records, passenger manifests, and much more.

Good luck in your search,

Sherri Bobish

Hi Daniel,

The following info is from a book dated 1929, but perhaps his name remained on the property after he passed on.

A search at:
https://genealogyindexer.org/directories
finds a record for Isak Rafael MANN and Sime MANN on a list of owners "eigentumer - index" on page titled
"X.X. Bezirk "(district.)

Both names are listed separately, but have the same number next to each name "5094" in a column titled "E.Z."  I do not know what E.Z. stands for.

The book's name is:
Häuser-Kataster der Bundeshauptstadt Wien : 10. Häuser-Kataster der Bundeshauptstadt Wien.
House register of the federal capital of Vienna : 10. House register of the federal capital
of Vienna

Good luck in your search,

You may also be able to find information at newspapers.com and at the Library of Congress newspaper resource (sorry, can't recall its name right now).  A friend found a lawsuit filed by my uncle's widow around 1915 by checking newspapers.com.

Have you tried sending an email directly to the archives?

stadsarchief@...

I have found some success in writing directly to various archives.  You can write in English (with an apology), and offer to pay.  This has helped me obtain various family records; sometimes there have been a fee, sometimes not.

Give as many details as you possibly can.

Good luck!

I would try the Division of Old Records , 7th
Floor,  31 Chambers Street in lower Manhattan.
If they don’t have it you may have to check withKings County Court  Records.

Then try Fulton History online which has the copies of the Brooklyn Eagle.

Good luck

In response to your question: Roman Abramovich is a Russian "oligarch" and the owner of the Chelsea Football Club in London. He has had his assets frozen by the UK government in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Early on, when sanctions against oligarchs were threatened, he tried to sell the club, but the imposition of sanctions against him have halted that.
