Re: Genealogy software? #general

Doug Burrows

Hi all,
I tried to download the Rootsmagic app and although I finally managed that, I can’t, for the life of me fathom how to use it.
Due to my vision impairment, I don’t use a computer. I just use my iPad, but as you seem to have to plug into a computer, it will be a waste of time for me.
Anyone else have this problem?
Cheers

Jewish Refugees Tashkent WWII #general

Kate

Greetings to Everyone!

I have found four cards with names of my great grandparents, grandparents and my Mom in this data base. The card shows name and city they are coming from to Tashkent. There is no information on a place of birth and dob shows only the year. I wonder if one can use these cards to dig more information. Do you have any advice? I would like to learn where my great/grandparents were born. Is it possible to find out?

Hope this helps.

In genealogy the term "vital record" refers to Birth Marriage or Death registration.

What you posted on  ViewMate is "[...] writing in Yiddish is on the back of a card. On the other side is a picture of a family of 3."

There are actually few - if any - vital records in Yiddish. When you see do Hebrew characters on vital records (from Russia), the language is usually Hebrew, not Yiddish. Other vital records I've seen (from Galicia, or Austro-Hungary) may have a name in Hebrew characters, not much more.

Re: Did you go to a Jewish summer camp? #usa

I went to Emma Farm in Harmony, Pa and Kadimah near Evans City in the 1950s.. These were near Pittsburgh. There was also a Jewish camp in West Virgina in the 50s. I believe that was run by Young Judea. In 1959 I went to Camp Bnai Brith in Starlight, Pa. My sister was a camper and counselor at Tel Yehuda in Northeastern Pa.in the late 1940s.

I am looking for a Nathan Phillips from London, born about 1830 according to census records.  I have found one about the right age who died in 1912.  His tombstone is pictured in FindAGrave.  Could someone please translate his Hebrew name for me?

Translation service for three Grodno records #poland #translation

theresakoenigsknecht@...

Hello,
Would someone be willing to contact me to translate three JRI birth records from Trzcianne?
A better understanding of the Polish (vs. the JRI transcript) would help to see if the records pertain to a certain family. I can offer a small stipend through Venmo.

Thank you,

Miriam Pinkas

I attended several Habonim camps in the 1950s and early 1960s.  I was a camper at Habonim camp kinneret in Michigan and a junior counselor at Midwest Camp Habonim.  I was a counselor at both Habonim Camp Moshava in Maryland and Habonim Camp Galil in Pennsylvania.  I have some wonderful memories and I met some wonderful people.  Many years later, at different stages of my life, and in different parts of the world,
I have met some of them.  There was a connection as we recalled different adventures.
