Does anyone know the location of any interesting Jewish sites in China?
I am going to Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and a few smaller cities in
between. We will meet with a Jewish guide in Shanghai but would be
interested in visiting sites in other cities as well.

Dear Fellow Genealogists,

I would greatly appreciate translations of my two Viewmate postings:
VM2974 and VM 2975.

For VM2974, I am interested not only in the message, but also in the

signatures. This was the last known communication our family had with
these relatives prior to the Holocaust. I am now in the process of
trying to trace these individuals through the International Red Cross,
so all details are most welcome.

The postings be found at:
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html

Please send your responses directly to me at csimon@....

Thanks so much.

Announcing the Konstantynow nad Bugiem PSA Project! #poland

RobinnM@...

The Jewish Records Indexing - Poland transliteration team in Poland has just finished typing the 1879-1899 indexes for the Jewish records of Konstantynow nad Bugiem in the Lublin region! We are pleased to report that $145 has already been raised toward our goal of $250... and with your help, we will quickly raise the rest of the funds...

Donations of any size are greatly appreciated. Donations of at least $50 will make a contributor eligible for a copy of the EXCEL spreadsheet of the index with a signed database sharing agreement.

The index will be posted on the Jewish Records Indexing - Poland database
after the $250 has been raised, but qualifying donors will receive their own copy via email once they sign a database sharing agreement... and will not have to wait until the index comes on-line.

Here's how to make a donation:

Donations can be accepted by check, VISA or MasterCard! Please earmark your donation for the "Konstantynow nad Bugiem PSA project". Mail checks to:

Jewish Records Indexing - Poland
c/o Sheila Salo

Visa and MasterCard contributions may be phoned to Sheila at (301) 341-1261.

Or print out the form at: http://www.jewishgen.org/jri-pl/visa.htm by clicking
on the VISA Card and fax or mail it to Sheila. The fax number is also (301) 341-1261. (8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Eastern time only, please.) For selected countries, JRI-Poland is able to accept bank drafts in a donor's local currency. Please check the JRI-Poland contributions web page for the list of countries. If your country is not on the list, and you do not wish to pay by credit card, please contact JRI-Poland Treasurer, Sheila Salo, for further help. The web site address is:

Donations to JRI-Poland are tax-deductible for US tax payers to the extent

Re: Annie FISCHER (pianist): jewish? #hungary

mirda <mirda@...>

Although Annie Fischer was one of the greatest pianists of her era and was also a born as a Jew, it
is a rude overstatement, that almost all Hungarian musicians were Pestern Jews. Franz Liszt, Ferenc
Erkel, Erno Dohnanyi, Bela Bartok, Zoltan Kodaly, Miklos Hubay, Ede Zathureczky and Janos Ferencsik
were the leading personalities of the Hungarian music. Neither of them was Jew.
Even without them, we Jews have much to be proud of in the creation of the Hungarian and the
European culture. To overestimate our values is one of the greatest mistakes we can do.

Yes there is, www.altavizsle.hu
Best regards

Thank you very much, it's really useful and interesting
information! I will
try it in a few minutes..

By the wyay, do you know a Hungarian search engine? Sometimes, in
country
specific search engines special entries can be found whose are not
listed in big,
international databases and search engines. Sometimes this helps..
