forced labor on Haros-Sziget #hungary

Margarita Lacko <mishpologia@...>

Dear H-siggers,

My grandfather, Jeno LEICHT, did forced labor on "Háros-Sziget"
(Haros-Island) in 1941.

Any idea where can I find more information? (unit, how long he was there,
etc.)

Best regard,
Margarita

Skot iskola, Budapest #hungary

Margarita Lacko <mishpologia@...>

Dear H-siggers,

Not long ago I found out my mother went to the Skot iskola in Budapest. One
of her best friends was RUTTKAI Eva.

Doing an Internet search, I found the following:

Vörösmarty Mihály Általános Iskola
1064 Budapest, Vörösmarty u. 49.
A Vörösmarty Mihály Általános Iskola a VI. kerületben, az Andrássy út,
Teréz körút, Podmaniczky utca, Izabella utca által határolt rész
középpontjában, \"Terézváros szívében\" helyezkedik el. Intézményünk neves
múltra tekint vissza. Elodjét a Skót Misszió alapította, melynek jelszava:
\"How to do good?\" (Hogyan tegyünk jót?), és ez a gondolat hatotta át a
nevelési módszereket.

Would this be the same school?

Best regards,
Margarita

Hungarian Translation #hungary

Fern Ward <FRWard@...>

I'm hoping someone can help me with a Hungarian translation of a letter
written in 1926 >from Maramaros-Szighet to relatives in Brooklyn NY. I think
this letter was written by my great-grandmother to my grandfather and I'm
hoping to glean a last bit of family information >from this letter.
Apparently there was a family fight going on (I'm airing our 80-year old
dirty laundry on the internet) and I'm really hoping to find out the why's
and where's of this fight and why my grandparents never acknowledged having
any other relatives.

The letter is a 3-pager, listed on
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate in the "To View" section under the
following viewmates:
VM 5857, VM 5858, VM 5859.

Please reply privately to
mailto:FRWard@direcpc.com

Thank you!

The text onpart of the viewmate 5858 and 5859 are written in German, the
letters are Ghotic, a script I learned some 60 years ago in gymnasiumm
but novadays it is seldomly find even in the German speaking part of
Switzerland except in older publication and in printed form.

Best regards

It would be helpful for the translator to show the
date and place these letters were written from.

Also some of the text on the last two viewmates are
either German or Yiddish in Roman script.

Why "her" kicks?
You seem to think that this is illegal?
Surely general announcements are not secret?

Over here most papers' death notices are put on usenet on a daily basis by
a volunteer. This is very handy when using groups.google.com:

Neustadt, Germany birth certificates #general

David Priever

Dear fellow Jewishgenners,

I have been attempting to obtain the birth certificates of two distantly
related ancestors. They were the HOWARD Brothers comedy team of the
Vaudeville era.

Namely, they are:

William LEVKOWITZ, born April 14, 1886 (stage name: Willie HOWARD)
Isadore LEVKOWITZ, born July 7, 1881 (stage name: Eugene HOWARD)

Both were born in Neustadt, Silesia, Germany (present-day Prudnik, Opole,
Poland). Their parents Rabbi Leopold and Pauline (nee GLASS) LEVKOWITZ were
originally >from Russia (perhaps Merkine in Lithuania, but I have no
documentary proof of this).

I have been trying to put together a biography of the family since they were
well know during their years on the Broadway stage and some films (Willie
was in three full length motion pictures with some very great stage/screen
names).

I was in touch with a gentleman named Robery RASZCZYK of Zdzieszowice,
Poland but have lost touch with him.

Can anybody out there give me other sources to perhaps obtain these long
sought after birth certificates?

Thank you very much in advance.

Sincerely,

David Joel Priever
