Some of my Tropp family >from Kolbuszowa and Cmolas in Galicia emigrated to
Budapest in the 1880s. They seem to have prospered in Budapest - in business
and in the military - but suffered later under the Nazis then the

Kostoris #galicia

I'm wondering if the reason that the surname Kostoris does not appear in
Brody records is that it is not the correct surname unless the family had
immigrated to Brody from, say Greece, which is, in and of itself, unlikely.

If you get in touch with me privately, I'll see if I can help sort this out.

Budapest - Buda - Pest Question #hungary

Karen Cecilio <kcecilio@...>

Hello,

I am actively researching my husband's line, KAUNITZ (KAUNICZ)
who lived in the villages of Baan, Nyitra, Illava, Dubnicz, etc.
I am finding at some points that some of them move to the city
of Budapest.

I am interested in looking at the LDS films of the city, but am
rather baffled by what the differences are between Buda, Pest,
Obuda, and Budapest itself. Are they all districts of the same
city, or are they their own individual towns?

A little primer would be helpful. I can't seem to find a good
explanation online.

Thank you,
Karen Cecilio
Akron, Ohio

Many thanks for your note regarding the 1911 Canadian Census. Unfortunately,
there is not yet a name index, and thus far we have not located an address
at which they've lived in Montreal.

Hopefully, I will be able to get more information through other research
that I'm working on.

OOO or are they illiterate #poland

Greg Tuckman

Hello group,

There has been a big discussion as to what 000 means. While not an
expert, my understanding is that it means our ancestors could not write
in Polish. In my history I have records that are signed 000 and records
signed by the same people in Yiddish. It simply means that they could
not sign their names in Latin characters, so they were considered
illiterate by those in charge. They were still fluent in Hebrew and
Yiddish. Again, not an expert, but his is what I have seen.
