Thanks for your most interesting family story.

Historically it became a necessity for Jews to escape >from the

There were 3 escape routes:
1. Emigrate to US (or Canada et al)
2. Got to Palestine
3. Become a Ruissian Revolutionary

Of those who came to N America there was a strong group that
wanted to assimilate, forget the old country, become American.
Your grandfather seemed to be an extreme assimilator.

I don't know >from your description whether he was Lithuanian

only one part of the "Pale".

Most of us are trying to learn more about Lithuanian history;
our poarents did't want it and didn't talk about it. It is
only recently tnat we discovered the great thng that they

Stick around; you will learn lots of interesting Jewish history.

Did you escape the heat wave in Buffalo?

Hello

In about 1920 my uncle Meleich LIPSCHITZ came to the United States
and stayed with his friend Mr. Pasternak some place in Passaic, New
Jersey.
Meilach was my father's youngest brother. They had a half brother
Feivel BRISKER name changed to Phillip BARNETT in London, my father
Abraham Moses LIPSHITZ changed his name to FEINSTEIN in London. The
other brothers were Meyer, Aron, Jacob, Joseph and possibly Nachum
or Nathan.
It would be nice to connect with the Pasternak family and see if we
can connect to the Lipshitz family >from Zabludava.

Family of Hedy BRONZESCU #general

haflo <haflo@...>

Dear Jewishgenners-
This letter is being written on behalf of my friend who lives
in the UK as she herself has no internet access.
In 1929, my friend's mother (Grete SALTISCHEK/ BLITZ), & her
uncle (Walter SALTISCHEK) lost touch with a very close family member.
The family has been trying to locate Hedy BRONZESCU, but thus far,
have been unsuccessful.

Hedy BRONZESCU (her maiden name) was born on June 26, 1912 in Vienna. Her parents Eugen & Natalie BRONZESCU were >from Romania
(possibly Bucharest). Sometime after the contact between Hedy, Grete
& Walter was broken, Hedy was married & very likely moved to England.
At one stage, she also lived in Paris. The SALTISCHEK family don't
know her married surname, but they remember that she used to breed
prize Pekinese dogs.

If anyone can help in locating Hedy BRONZESCU &/or any of
her descendants, please reply to me privately, & I will forward your responses to my friend in England. Her family would appreciate any assistance in re-establishing contact. If this appeal to Jewishgen
doesn't succeed, the SALTISCHEK family is unsure what will!!!

TIA

Ports for Vitebsk #belarus

AZ61BROOK@...

Dear JewishGenners,

I am trying to find out which ship, which port, my Ggf NATHAN CHEIFETZ
would have used to leave VITEBSK for the U.S. in 1909.
That is the year he supposedly landed in New York, with his family.

I would like to try to access the CIMORELLI web page that has ship
manifests. When I was last there, I did not know which ships/ports to
concentrate on.

Were there major ship lines that would have been dominant in the "Immigrant
trade"?

For those who are not aware, the CIMORELLI page is a page you can get to >from the link on the JGSNY page: www.jgsny.org

or go to: www.cimorelli.com

I have found that page to be a very busy one.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Bonnie M
