ROSIN and GOLDBERG in Philadelphia #general

George Heister <heister@...>

I finally found my father's ship's passenger manifest. His name was
Samuel BERMAN >from Malin, Ukraine. He arrived in 1910 to Philadelphia.
PA. It lists an Aros ROSIN, cousin, who lived on Dudley Street, as the
person he came to. I also have my father's 1920 census which lists a
Joel Rosin living with him. Both of them lived with an uncle Jacob
Hersch Berman. I know all about Jacob Hersch Berman but never heard of
anyone whose last name was Rosin.

I am also looking for Wolf GOLDBERG who was in real estate in the early
1900 in Philadelphia, PA. There is also Jacob Goldberg and Abraham who
might have been his children or brothers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for: BERMAN in Radomyshl and Malin, Ukraine
SHCHERBANSKY in Kodra, Ukraine and Moscow, Russia
LAMELSKY in Malin, Ukraine
CHIPOVETSKY in Radomyshl, Ukraine,Chicago and New
Haven, CT

Sharing 125 copies of your family tree #general

james gross <larklane@...>

Hello,
I was recently asked a very good question which is of relevance
to all. This person told me that some of their relatives had
expressed a desire to receive copies of genealogy material.
They were at a loss as to what and how to respond to these
requests and how to present their tree. So, my question to you
the reader is: how does one handle such requests?

My answer: I spend 1/2 my time chasing relatives to TRY and give
them a copy of my tree. Regarding sharing genealogy info, I do
not have all my info on my webpage for security reasons.
So the webpage is not a choice for me. (even though I can do html).
I think there are 2 choices:

1) pen / typewriter & a copy machine
2) genealogy software & a copy machine

Either one works. I have just recently input most of my genealogy
info into my brothers keeper program. I use the older dos version
because its fairly easy to use. There is a new windows version that
I have but I don't like it and don't use it.

As to what one shares: I have 125 breathing relatives with addresses
to date. There is simply NO WAY that every person is getting a copy
of all my photos, family stories, and tree charts. It just isn't
practical
for me and I can't afford it. I have compromised and sent tree charts
as a one time jewish new year event. Last year I just sent
postcards & let people contact me back. When people contact me I
usually send a copy of a prepared tree to them. Either by mail or by
e-mail. (very few by e-mail).

I have 6 boxes of photos and many family stories. I have not
run into any relatives who have said: "Jim give me what you have and
I'll pay you whatever you feel is fair." Even if they did I would say
that I am not really in a position to do this. Maybe 1 rare photo per
family. ( I did that for my South Africa branch).

As long as ones trees are readable, you can send handwritten
ones out. No one is grading you. They just want to see it. You can
always grade yourself later and improve it yourself. I read it over and
over in genealogy "how-to" books: "Get that material distributed today".
The idea is that ones desire for perfection shouldn't overshadow the
actual sending & sharing of ones family tree data. Irregardless of the
actual quantity of your living relatives, costs add up. I try to effect a
happy balance between sending nothing and sending everything.
And, by sending out the trees (with errors), I am getting corrected
family info, and more names and addresses of relatives.

PARESKY/PAREZKY #general

Cheryl Hoover <crhoover@...>

I have been searching for my Paresky family for years with no luck at
all. I did find out today that there was a person, whom I think might
be a brother of my ggrandfather Isaac Paresky. My question is this:
could the Hebrew spelling for Paresky be Parezky? Also, could Isaac be
Izahok? If so, then I might have a lead on this family. Any help in
this would be gratefully appreciated.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Hoover
