Leon Nogid- how did he end up in South Africa? #southafrica

Jeni ArmandezZiara <jeni.armandez@...>

Greetings Fellow Genners!

I am inquiring about a relative that had married into my family. Leon NOGID is
listed as having been born in Russia around 1865. Somehow he made his way to the
UK, where he married my gg-aunt, Therese (also known as Ranah) SCHOENFELD in
October 1893. A child was born, James Joseph NOGID in July 1894 in England and
Therese died in London around 1896.

Leon NOGID died in Johannesburg, South Africa in March 1960. How he arrived
there is a mystery. After Therese passed, I found him visiting New York and
returning to England. I believe his son, James Joseph NOGID may have taken
SCHOENFELD as his last name and was raised by a maternal uncle.

Does anyone know where Leon NOGID may be buried? I have no immediate plans to
come to South Africa; but I am trying to create a clear picture of the family
tree.

Many thanks for your thoughts and advice,
Jeni Armandez
Los Angeles, CA

If three brothers had independent households in the same town
in 1785, did the town clerk assign different family names to each?
Could they request the same name?

Does Gesher Galicia have a collection of "old" shtetl photos?
Where can I find such photos?

New Shtetlink Site - Olaszliszka #hungary

Stuart Ungar

I have just completed my 3rd Shtetlink site for JewishGen. The site focuses on the town of Olaszliszka, Hungary.

The direct link is here: http://www.shtetlinks.jewishgen.org/olaszliszka/Welcome.html

I still need photographs of the cemetery there (please email me if you have photos or are planning a trip to the area anytime soon). And I would love to hear >from people that have connections to the town.

In general, feedback on the site is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Stuart Ungar

Moderator: Mazel tov and thank you, Stuart. If there's no website for the place where your ancestors lived, go
