Surprisingly, I found in the 1929 and 1930 Polish Business Directory
some people named WYGODNY in a place called "Porzecze". Apparently
it's a small village (pop. about 1000) in the province of Bialystok,
Powiat Grodno, Pok. Druskieniki, okr. Grodno .

Yes, Druskienniki (two "n") is the Polish name for the Lithuanian town
Druskininkai. The town belonged to Poland before WWII; it was a
well-known spa (and still is).

THANK YOU #unitedkingdom

To all of those who replied to my inquery regarding London City Directories
and Immigration records, a big thank you >from a grateful Yank.

To those who asked about where I found the 1900 London City Directory, the
FHL has a number of Postal Directories on microfilm and that is where I
found a 1900 and 1903 directory. Unfortunately, they don't have the years I
need.

Has anyone on the list heard of the Adenite congregation in London (Jews

Googling the name, but get nothing of any use!

'DEATH AT SEA' QUESTION #unitedkingdom

B. Frederics <picturethisfilm@...>

Dear Ena,

Yes, many of the ship manifests note "deaths at sea". Most make note either
on the final column of the person's name or on the end page. You can scan
the manifest, which may be many pages, at www.stevemorse.org , whose format
will allow you to examine the documents in many different ways and it's
free.

The names "Biniem" and "Benyamin" #poland

Doug Mason

According to family tradition (records for Kurow, Poland are not publicly
available), around 1876 Simha Biniem MANDELBAUM had a son named Benyamin.
Are the names "Biniem" and "Benyamin" variants of one another?

The same family tradition says that Benyamin was not the youngest child.
Is it likely a son would be named after his living father?

ViewMate: A huge Thank You for Translation! #general

JGyori@...

Dear Genners,
A huge thank you to our incredible group! I was notified that my ViewMate images
were available last night. I had planned on posting my request when I returned
home >from work today. To my surprise - I guess I shouldn't have been surprised at
all - I already had at least four translations of my ViewMate posting waiting for
me this afternoon.

Thank you again to all who responded. I have thanked them all privately, but I
thought it's always to tell others how nice someone has been.

This stone was of the brother of my great grandmother and his wife. I never knew
his side of the family survived, but also through JewishGen, his greatgrandson
and I found each other. We met for the first time this summer when I went to
Budapest.

For all who wonder why we publish, make contacts on JewishGen and keep poking
around on the web -- this is why -- to connect to those we never knew existed. My
parents were the virtually only ones who survived in their families. I grew up
with 2 brothers and very few cousins. So far, I have new cousins in New York,
Maryland, and Hungary. Who knows what the future may open up. I've always thought
that genealogy was just as much about the future as the past.

Thank you again to all,

Seeking: Heinrich FINKELSTEIN MD #general

Arthur Sugerman

Heinrich FINKELSTEIN was born 1865 in Leipzig and died 1942 in Santiago de Chile.
He was a very prominent pediatrician whose name is on a street in Berlin and a
prize given by the North German Pediatric Society. His bio is in the Encyclopedia
Judaica, the Neue Deutsche Biographie and other reference works but none of these
mentions his parentage or names of siblings, although he had a brother, a surgeon,
who died young, and a sister. I am looking for a connection to Agathe Finkelstein
who married Max HIRSCH, founder of the Humboldt Academy and Hirsch-Duncker
Gewerkverein.
If you have any information or suggestions for further research please get in
touch.

Dear Michael,

JGFF (JewishGen Family Finder) database lists already 23 reserchers (42 entries)
associated with town Khodorkov. Surname Komarovsky is not listed. To commemorate
your family you should join JGFF and list Komarovsky for Khodorkov.

JGFF also list three entries for Komorovsky (exact spelling) form Kyiv and
Gornostaypol, village north of Kyiv.

BTW,
The ex Russian bilionaire chap Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky who just a year
ago, in 2004, was rated as the 16th richest person in the world, had also his
roots in Khodorkov.

Pity that he didn't manage to donate his money to the JewishGen projects prior to
transfer it to the Russian Treasury.
