Viewmate photos of possible relatives from Potok Zloty- KOCH/GINSBURG/BARBASCH ? #poland

milton koch <miltonkoch@...>

I have posted two photos of possible cousins of my father's. His name
was MAX KOCH and he was born in POTOK ZLOTY.

Please go to view them at this link
http://data.jewishgen.org/viewmate/toview.html

7320 is a picture of a bride, her first name is Malka, but I don't know
her last name. The woman to her RIGHT is her mother- who MAY be a cousin
of my late father, Max Koch. She was a rebetzin. They lived in NYC. I
also don't have any name or related information. Anything would be of
great help to me.

7321 is picture of the rebetzin in profile and another lady in profile-
possibly her sister. They are seated in the lower right hand of the
picture.

Any names, etc would be appreciated.

I am searching for information about the whereabouts or descendants or fate
of Monique MORO-JANG, daughter of Henry LANDSBERG and Anna SILVERBERG (b.

Some library materials that belonged to her father have been found and
the German authorities would like to return them to the heirs of Henry
Landsberg.
If you have any information about Monique, please contact me privately

I can add that there were Railroad Ticket Agencies in the port cities
where tickets, pre-purchased by relatives in distant cities, would be
held for pick-up by arriving immigrants. There were three Jewish
owned agencies in Boston a century ago, which were the destination of a
large number of newcomers. The manifest usually, but not always,
identifies the ticket agent as "Friend".

Dear
Dr. Lea Gedalia,

In my tree I do have BERGER same spelling, and POLAK with a singe L.
After visiting the JewishGen Family Finder at
http://www.jewishgen.org/jgff/ and checking for names in your tree, let me know if you find matches listed
by me as researcher 55712, and then contact me perhaps off-sig.

Looking for Jewish roots from England via Philadelphia or New York #unitedkingdom

Richard Gilbert <gilbert67@...>

Hello!

My name is Richard Gilbert. I was born in NJ in 1967 to Paul Alfred
Gilbert, who was born in NJ in 1927 to Joseph Gilbert, who was born in May
1888.

Family folklore has it that Joseph was born to a Jewish family in
Philadelphia that had emigrated >from England (possibly London, possibly
elsewhere). Joseph might have been born in New York.

Supposedly he renounced his Judaism in the 1920s when he joined a Masonic
group.

My father was raised a Lutheran, possibly due to his mother's heritage.

Is there anything you can do to help me research this side of my family?

Thank you very much!

Sincerely,
Richard Gilbert

Re: Given name Leni #austria-czech

Prof. G. L. Esterson <jerry@...>

David Laufer posted as follows:

Can anyone tell me about the given name Leni ? Is it a name in its own
right, or the diminutive form of another name such as Helene ?
The name Leni is a stand-alone given name much used by non-Jewish Germans,
and adopted beginning about 1800 by German Jews. It was also used by them
as a diminutive for the German secular name Helene.

Sometime after this secular name Leni began to be used actively by Jews in
Germany, it was also adopted by Jews living in other European countries,
including Czechoslovakia.

Its use by Jews in Germany is shown in the JewishGen Given Names Data Base
for Germany at the web site:

by searching for the name Leni using Plain Text Search. Its use in
Czechoslovakia and other countries will be seen in the GNDBs for those
countries on the JewishGen web site, after an upcoming update.
