Celia -

the question I answered -
> If someone can find this person in Visalia at a free site, please post?

Maybe I was mistaken, but I took that as a request to explain how one can
use public data bases to locate information instead of having to subscribe
to databases which provide this same information at a fee.

I think there are many people who do not know this information is out there,
do not know how to find it, and could further their research if they did.
Knowledge gives people the power to help themselves, and I think that is a
good thing.

Most of the ancestors we are looking for have died a long time ago, but our
ability to find information about them often depends on locating their living
descendants. If we don't know how to begin to do that, we are done before
we start. Whether we like it or not, the information is out there, so we might
as well learn how to use it to our advantage.

As far as the person who was being looked for is concerned - If a person does
not want to be located, I suggest he have an unlisted telephone number, does
not register to vote, or does not get a license to drive a car.

He should not purchase property, join an organization, graduate >from school,
and never allow his name to appear in the newspaper. Also, never use a real
name or geographic location on any genealogy mail board. In other words, cover
up all your tracks so that no one will ever be able to contact you or find you.

I don't think there is double standard going on here at all. This forum is
made up of all kinds of people and over the past few days various individuals
were expressing their own points of view, which are bound to differ.

I really wonder if I am the only one who finds a big paradox/double standards
at play here. On the one hand, there is a discussion on whether someone
should not, reveal the country and/or their town of residence or whether we
should respect their right to privacy. We are not even allowed to give a house
number on this forum.

Re: Lithuanian Vital Records Database is now LIVE #general

Ben Forman <ben.forman@...>

Hi Guys

I pretty sure I've just found the birth record of my GGGM, Shaina
VEINER she was born in Panevezys / Kupiskis in 1878. But I would like to
check a couple of things:
1. It gives an exact date in 1878 for her date of birth which would mean
that her daughter, my great granmother was born when she was 17. My GGM
had an older sister Nechama and it would seem unlikely that they would
both be born by the time their mother was 17.

Do you think this is possible

2.It lists the name of the father/grandfather as Vulf Mordkhel, Falk, I
have not come across the name Falk before, is it a diminutive of
something. It lists the mother/grandfather as Esther Malka is this Ester
whose mother was Malka, and no name for the father or maiden name .

Thanks for the help, I'll keep my fingers crossed and do some more
checking tonight (GMT)

FREUND and POLLAK #austria-czech

Linda Berkowitz <e-berkowitz@...>

I am looking for information on Abraham FREUND and his wife Anna
POLLAK; they operated a grocery store. I know that they had at
least six children, though I only know the names of three sons:
Jacob (born 1858), Joseph, and Alois (born 1854). I believe that
these three sons lived in Tabor, though Jacob was born in Votice and
Alois was born in Hresihlavy.

Jacob was married to Elizabeth HERMANN and they had a daughter, Ernst/
Arnost. Ernst/Arnost was married to Elsa MARKUS. Alois married
Mathylda FANTL and they had four children: Elsa, Irma, Rudolph, and
Heda. Alois and Mathylda took in Alois's brother Joseph because he
was handicapped.

SA SIG Lunch 26 IAJGS Conference 13-18 Aug.2006 #southafrica

Saul Issroff <saul@...>

The South Africa SIG luncheon at the 26th IAJGS Conference at the Marriott
Hotel, Times Square, New York has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 16th.

The guest speaker is Ann Rabinowitz of Miami Beach, probably one of the
most knowledgeable and dedicated contributors to the SA SIG.

The topic is "Kuposhikers in Africa ". Her story entitled "A Journey to
Africa and Beyond - A Few Vignettes" is appropriate as it encapsulates what
happened to many families who came to SA. Her SA connection is the Choritz
family of Bot Rivier.

Those who want to attend MUST register on the Conference Web site. Paying
at the door will NOT be an option.

Please go to http://www.jgsny2006.org/ for further information about the
conference and registering.

There will also be several SA related lectures, a computer workshop and a
general SA SIG meeting at the conference

GLOCER family from Warszawa #general

Marius Loeffler <varicoseveins@...>

I am looking for any news about family GLOCER >from Warszawa. There was a
Jewish firm located at Napoleon square Nr 2 (Plac Napoleona Nr 2). The name
of the firm was Glocer and Son and was trading with bussiness machines. I
was told that Glocer managed to escape before German invasion but he died in
Sweden in 1947. Some descendant are apparently living in USA. My adoptive
Father Ian Loeffler was working for Glocer. He installed on belhaf of Glocer
first audio recordfing system in Polish Parlament probably in 1938. I would
like to find out amongs others, how my adoptive Father, an invalid
pensioner, managed to get job at Glocers. Was there nay connection between
Glocers and my biological family of the unknown to me name. Maybe my
natural grand parents found my adoptive Father this job as the reward for
looking after me?

Rose Feldman <rosef@...>

Just a bit of clarification, there are some microfilms at the Diaspora
Museum (Beth Hatefusoth) but they were a donation >from Prof. Yitzhak
Halbrecht who had them as a private collection. The microfilms they have can
be seen at this website
http://www.bh.org.il/Genealogy/ldsbyname.aspx
They cover just a specific area of interest of their previous owner.
but if you find they match what you found on a JRI-Poland index, you can
order a copy by mail.
