Bronx Web Site #general

Richard Gordon <rgordon@...>

I'm sending this post mostly to let JewishGenner's with "Bronx roots"
know about "The Bronx Board" (www.bronxboard.com). It is a free
website (with which I am not affiliated in any way other than as a
frequent user) specifically for ex-Bronxites. The board has lots of
general reminiscing about the Bronx etc... "Looking for
so and so..." posts are welcome there.

Hope it helps,
Richard Gordon

Re: More Cohen and Kagan #lithuania

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have been watching with great interest the recent plethora of postings
regarding the name Cohen aka Kagan aka lots of other suggestions. Many well-
intended Litvaks have contributed their suppositions and advice all without
any definitive conclusions.
May I make a humble and rather simple suggestion? Why don't we just contact an
expert in the field, such as a Lithuainian archivist or genealogist, and ask
them the simple question: what would Cohen translate into in the
Lithuainian/Hebrew names used at the time(say 1850 to 1920)? Sometimes going
to the source with a plain simple question obtains the best and quickest
results.

Cleaning up old genealogy papers #general

james gross <larklane@...>

Hello,
Unlike most of you, I am not the most organized person.
I have accumulated piles and piles of almost worthless
papers, booklets, and other material. I have just made a
large pile of things that I will throw out and things I will
donate to my JGS. This "house cleaning" is quite a job,
but it is already helping me focus more on my family trees
and less on my paper piles.

Re: Researching KOUFAX #general

Shaul and Aviva Ceder <ceder@...>

The original family name of Sandy KOUFAX was BRAUN. His parents were
divorced when Sandy was a child, and his mother subsequently married
Irving KOUFAX, who was therefore Sandy's stepfather.

DAVID SNYDER <ds66@...>

Dear fellow JewishGenners-
I am presently trying to locate a rabbi in Oklahoma (probably in
Oklahoma City) by the name of SHERMAN (I do not know his first name). I
have tried various internet sources/phonebooks, but have not been able
to come up with anything. Hopefully, a kind Oklahoman or someone who
has access to United Synagogue Rabbinical listings or Reform Rabbinical
listings will be able to help me in this matter. Thanks.
