CATCH 22? How would you proceed? #general

Howard M. Relles <rellesh@...>

10 Meinhardt females were born in NYC >from 1934 to 1944 (according to
the NYC Index of Births in the New York Public Library). Two of these
would be my second cousins; their father would be Edward Meinhardt; I
don't know their mother's name. Assuming, as is usual, that the
father's name is listed on the Birth Certificates, I should be able to
identify which are my cousins >from these. But according to the person I
spoke to at the Bureau of Records and Statistics of the Dept. of Health
for NYC (125 Worth St., NY, NY 10013; 212-788-4520), I cannot see these
records or even ask them to check for which would have Edward as the
father unless I can first prove that I am related (perhaps even that I
am the parent) to the child. But I can't prove which ones I'm related
to until I find which have Edward for the father. Have I hit a dead
end? Any suggestions?
Sincerely,
Dr. Howard M. Relles

Re: Kamenets-Podilsky Archive #general

Hi!

My wife's parents came >from the Kamenetz Podolia area, either Krasna or
Vinnitza. Their name was VINNITSKI. Trying to locate info on them has been
difficult because when they came here, some came before WW I and were boarders
so cannot locate them in census. Remainder came after 1920, and do not have
locations for them. Any help would be appreciated since I am new at this work.
Have done better on my fathers side.

TIA,

Mt. Judah Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY #general

Sheldon Clare <clare+@...>

Last month, I visited my grandmother Rivka Grozen's grave in the
Oshmaner Brothers' plot in Mt. Judah Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY. I found
the grave, which is supposedly under pertual care, as
well as the rest of the cemetery in deplorable condition. When I
complained to Cypress Hills cemetery, they angrily told me that Mt.
Judah was not part of their system, that it was a "JEWISH CEMETERY" and
that they would NOT give me the appropriate address!!!
To whom do I direct my disappointment about the condition of the
cemetery?

would all be several generations back. Thanks.

Hello
There is a Tepliz near Prague. It has been an established Jewish
Community for many years. I found that in the old Jewish Ency.
I hope this helps someone.

Advice required #2 #general

Gailcopela@...

One fellow did reply to my earlier query about my elusive ggm. The info he
provided presumed she made her way to the U.S. While this isn't entirely
impossible, odds are she stayed around England. That is the presumption I must
work on first. So, all you UK JewishGenners, where would I start to try to
find out more about this woman's movements? I'm flailing about in all
directions at the moment (not a good research strategy!). I'm hoping that once
I've obtained my ggf's death certificate, perhaps I'll glean more information
about his estranged wife, but I'm not betting on it.
