Searching: NEZVETSKY of Newtown, CT #general

David W. Harris <dharris1@...>

In a recent discussion with the "older generation", my cousin mentioned
that my grandparents, the BORNSTEIN family, used to visit their relatives
at the NEZVETSKY Farm in Newtown, CT. The Newtown Chamber of Commerce has
given me the name and address of the present NEZVETSKY owner and I have
already written. However, I would also like to hear >from anybody who 1) is
a relative of the NEZVETSKY's or 2) is familiar with the family and the
farm.

My family used to visit in the 1940's and 1950's but apparently has had no
further contact since the older generation passed away. Thanks for any new
information that anyone can shed on this part of the family.

Still trying to find out what happened to them in '39. Were they taken to
Treblinka? Anyone know?
The International Tracing Service of the Red Cross has the most complete
information about the fate of Holocaust victims.

Try Felcher. You'll find some (originally >from Poland) in the Brooklyn,
N.Y. phone directory.

Nehemya Zvi = Chaimas Girsas ? #general

Jose Gutstein <jmg-miami@...>

My grandmother always said her father's name was Chaimas
Girsas Kamenshchik.
Her sister would refer to the same father as Nehemya Zvi
Kamenshchik.
The family was >from Kovno, Lithuania.

1) Does Nehemya Zvi = Chaimas Girsas?

2) My grandmother emigrated in 1928 and her sister stayed
and survived the Holocaust. Could the difference be that my
grandmother had the period of Lithuanian independence as her
reference point and thus used the Lithuanian version of the
same name?

Thanks,

Jose Gutstein

"I have checked the Discussion Group Archives and the Hungarian SIG Lists
Archives and found nothing about this subject. I have tried the Library of
Congress and local libraries and have come up empty. Surely this major
capital city had directories."

Funny, you should ask. Yesterday, I was searching the Austrian National
Library's on line catalog <http://www.onb.ac.at> for Polish and Galician
directories and did come acrsoss some for Budapest. Look under the subject
heading "Adressbucher" and don't forget to look not only for Budapest but
also for drectories of the whole Austro-Hungarian Empire. BTW I will be
going to Vienna next month to look at these directories.

In addition, you may want to search the catalogs of the British Library and
the Biblioteque National in Paris. They also have directories. Finally,
the best place would be the Hungarian National Library -- a place I have
not researched yet.
