Trotenov, Czechoslovakia #general

Carol Rombro Rider

This was reported on Arutz-7 News via the internet on Friday, November 13,
1998. It may be of interest for those researching the town. It also
suggests that the cemetery has been relatively intact until now, although I
could not guess how many years it has been in use.

<< The Jewish cemetery in Trotenov, Czechoslovakia, was vandalized over the
past several days. Some 41 Jewish gravestones were overturned, and
anti-Jewish graffiti was sprayed in various places there.

Adam Katzeff <adam.katzeff@...>

My ggf, Samuel Joselowitz Katzeff, had a sister who moved to Boston, USA
around 1900 and their
married a man with the surname Smith. I don't know what her name was, but
she was probably was born in Parnu, Estonia where Samuel and his brother
Schile David Joselowitz Katzeff were born (in 1875 and 1878) as the sons of
Josef Leibowitz Katzeff and his wife Rose.

If anyone knows anything about Samuel's and David's sister and her family,

Searching KATZEFF, Glasgow, Scotland #general

Adam Katzeff <adam.katzeff@...>

My ggf, Samuel Joselowitz Katzeff, had a brother who moved to Glasgow
Scotland around 1900. I'm not sure about his name, but it could be Schile
David Joselowitz Katzeff. What I know about Schile David Katzeff is that he
was born in Parnu, Estonia 3/8 1878 (Samuel was born there 24/5 1875) as
the son of Josef Leibowitz Katzeff and his wife Rose. Schile David Katzeff
came to Stockholm Sweden in the late 1890's, together with Samuel, and
married Berta (surname unknown) born 5/3 1872 in Poland. Together they got
the sons Simon Davidowitz Katzeff (born 8/2 1899 in Stockholm) and Nissen
Inda Davidowitz Katzeff (born 11/11 1900 in Stockholm). After a few years
they moved >from Sweden and I presume it was to Glasgow, Scotland.

If anyone knows anything about Samuel's brother, Schile David or whatever
his namne was, please contact me privately

Searching: DUMAJ - origin of name #general

Solicitors Chambers <lawful@...>

I rececently discovered that my maternal grandfather's surname, before he
changed it to Silverstone, was Dumaj (pronounced Dumai) and that the word
"dumaj" means " day-dream" in Polish. What a strange name to have! I
wonder whether it was allocated to his father or grandfather round about
1800 when Jews were forced to take surnames, perhaps by some official who
thought it was mildly humorous? Any Dumajs or Dumais out there to compare
notes with?

There was a large furniture store in Seattle called "Funes & Oziel"..owned
by 2 cousins. I don't know if it is still in business. the Oziels are a
large Sephardic family in Seattle. You might want to try searching
on one of the "People Finders". Please note that they spell their name OZIEL.

Searching: Info on SEIDENWAR family #general

Any info would be greatly appreciated. The family started in Poland and
later moved to Germany
