Published Family Histories - Useful Sites #general

Ellis R. & Jana M. Jackson <erjackson@...>

Shirley and all.

This is the Jewish Publication Society of America. Perhaps they can help
http://www.feduja.org/commserv/organize/0536.stm

You can find this, and *a lot* of other helpful sites at
http://www.feduja.org/commserv/orgname.stm
which, I believe is part of the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. It also
has link to the Cemetery Project, and on that page one can find lists of
Jewish Cemeteries.

It is worth a look.

Inclusion in family tree #general

KEN WIGLER <data@...>

My understanding is that it is not possible to convert out of Judaism,
a good reason/rationalization for including Christian relatives in a
family tree.

I have a very unusual last name, so when I run across it, I wonder about
relatedness. I found a reference to Hans Jerrick Wigler in a book in The
Genealogy Room in The SanDiego Library. He came to Pennsylvania from
Germany in 1727. Records state that the occupants of his ship were
Palatines. These were Protestants who became a Pennsylvania Dutch sect.
I'm curious about the possibility that he may have been related, and may
have been Christian.

Anyone who knows anything about how to proceed is welcome to contact me.

Thank you
Ken Wigler

ggfather, Shulem or Shalom Wigler was mayor of Sereth, Bukovina. Sereth
is a town on the river Sereth, on Dracula's water route as he rushed
home for the last time.

Whose Passport #general

Shmuel Fisher <Shmuel@...>

Hi Gener's,

When I got interested in family history, I asked my aunt for all the
records that my grandmother had. She sent me some interesting information.
Among the items was a passport dated in 1910 >from Russian part of Poland.
The name of the holder was Beta Eta Davidoka Josecova Naparstek. That name
is unfamiliar to my aunt and bares no known relationship to the family.
Another strange thing is that my grandparents left Russian part of Poland
in about 1903, which I get >from their passports.

I cannot concoct a story that seems reasonable to understand my
grandmother's possession of a strange passport. Can anyone come up with
some story?

Towns in Poland #general

James and Kelly <jandkel@...>

Dear sirs,

I was hoping that you might be able to help me with some research that
I'm doing. I am looking for some information on small country towns in
between Lodz and Warsaw. The research is for a novel that takes place
in the early 1940's. I need a town that is occupied by both Jewish and
Polish citizens. So far I have stumbled upon Strykow and Lowicz, or if
you have any other ideas, I am open to suggestions. I do however need a
detailed description of the town during that period of time. I thank
you in advance for any help that you may be able to give me.

Sincerely,

Success Report #general

Paula Spier <pspier@...>

This is to state that miracles happen, and one should never give up!

I checked the family finder for the umpteenth time this week, and sent
an e-mail to someone I am pretty sure I had queried before with no
results. This time I hit the jackpot. He is my second cousin, and we
have a whole host of new relationships to explore. It's one of the
nicest things that has happened to me in ages! So: thanks to JewishGen!
