Sprinza/Esperanca #general

MBernet@...

The name Esperanca seems to have always had a "Jewish" flavor that cut
across community barriers. I doubt it was ever confined to Sfardim.
It may have been a popular name, too, among Gentiles.

Latin words (and >from Romance languages in general) starting with ES (or
its French transformation, e aigu--é if you can read this) tend to loose
the initial E when they cross into the English and German speaking worlds,
Thus étranger/stranger, état/state. And hence, Esperanca becomes
Sprintza.

Michael Bernet, New York

seeking:

BERNET, BERNAT, BAERNET, BERNERTH etc >from Frensdorf, Bamberg, Nurnberg
KONIGSHOFER: Welbhausen, Konigshofen, Furth; PODERATZKI: Paris, Nurnberg.
ALTMANN: Kattowitz, Breslau, Poznan, Beuthen--Upper Silesia/Poland
WOLF: Frankfurt (Aron Wolf m. Babette Goldschmidt ca 1860) also in
Wurzburg, also Sali WOLF, Rotterdam

Re: RAF Passports #general

Stephen Mednick <smednick@...>

A little while ago I wrote a letter on behalf of my Father seeking
confirmation of the medals he was entitled to because of his service
in the RAF during WWII.

The address I wrote to was:

Officer-In-Charge
Records & Medals Department
RAF Management Personnel Service Centre (PMEN3)
Innsworth, Gloucester
England GL3 1EZ

I'm sure that this address is more appropriate for information about
former RAF service personnel.

Search Technique/Use Unusual First Name #general

Joel Ives <jives@...>

In response to Rich Sinykin's question which follows, I offer a
suggestion that may help other researchers. One of the people that Rich
is looking for is "Erona FRANKEL." You can search telephone databases,
SSDI, Ancestry databases and some other databases using only the first
name. It is far easier to find someone named "Erona" than someone named
"Frankel" For example there is an "Erona Cooke" in the SSDI who was
born in 1920. Of course, you can't use this technique if you're looking
for someone named "David."

"In 1921, my great grandmother Jennie FRANKEL HARRIS of Minneapolis had
a
brother in Canada (city and province unknown) by the name of Max
Frankel.
Max was married to an Ella ? or M. Ella ? They had five children. The
oldest was a girl named Erona, born circa 1913."

Has anyone ever visited the town of Borispol in the Ukraine? This town is
about 19 miles southeast of Kiev and it is where the Kiev airport is
located.

My grandparents and father emigrated >from there in the early part of this
century.

If anyone has visited Borispol, I would appreciate reading about your

Re: Lost family - Upstate PA & NYC #general

DAVID SNYDER <ds66@...>

I am desperately seeking any information or leads about "lost" cousins
of my grandmother who were living somehwere in upstate Pennsylvania
before WWII. Their name was BORNSTEIN (perhaps they used the spelling
BERNSTEIN). I know there were some BORNSTEIN siblings in New York
(Brooklyn) and my grandmother in Philadelphia - Tillie BORNSTEIN
SNYDERMAN (1879, Kanev district, Kiev gubernia - 1941, Phila.), as well
as a BORNSTEIN Aunt Sarah and her daughter Anna in Philadelphia and
another uncle (perhaps Sam BORNSTEIN) who was a barber in south
Philadelphia. The parnet of my grandmother and her sibling were
Mordechai Motyl & Bune BORNSTEIN - who never immigrated to the USA.
Anyone with any information leads about BORNSTEINS >from upstate
Pennsylvania, Philadelphia or Brooklyn - please be so kind as to contact
me privately.
