For your information.
Please excuse the duplication if you've seen this on
Jewishgen.

I visited the photo exhibition "And I Still See Their Faces"
and also bought the book.
Jewish faces in Poland before the war.
It's a beautiful album with hundreds of photos that are
quite moving when you read the accompaning text.

If you want to know whether a photo of someone
you are researching is in the book I have scanned
the index and put it on my homepage.
But even if you don't find an ancestor it's worth
buying the book to get an idea how they lived in
Poland before the second world War.

Laur <jborman@...>

I am trying to find an obituary of a relative, Maury Greenspan aka George
Marion, who died in the 1950s. I am told that the obituary was written up
in the New York Times. Is there anyone who has access to the NY Obituary
Index who'd be willing to help out? Maury was a friend of the writer,
Howard Fast. Thank you so much. Please reply to jborman@iquest.net

he always said he came from
a village called "Ochiefsko Oliesko" (this is a phonetic spelling, he never
wrote it down).
The Polish town of OLECKO is a possible suspect. It is located at coordinates
5402 2231, which is 138.2 miles NNE of Warsaw.

Good luck.

Utah marriage #general

Miriam Margolyes <75342.3217@...>

I am searching for info on Jacob PASEVITCH (born prob in Grodno 1857) He
was a well-known early photographer-married Henrietta Lazarus (>from
Berlin)in Salt Lake City in 1891. They were early founders of
Temple Israel there.

How can I get a copy of that marriage cert? Old records are hard to come
by-the info says no marriage certs. before 1978-is that a misprint?

If anyone has Utah contacts-I'd be grateful. They settled finally in
Oklahoma City-set up a photo studio there & their photos are now
collectible-of the early days of Oklahoma was still a territory.

Jacob died in Dec 26th, 1926 in Eden, Texas!! He was buried however,
back in Ok. City. The death cert comes form Ok. City. Would there
be any records in Eden of a death? How can I check-are Death
Certs issued in two places? Sorry for so many questions.

Searching Taxrolls on the Net -- WAS Re: Florida ID #general

jweinmann@...

Part of my employment involves extracting data >from county tax rolls for
the real estate industry. I hadn't thought of this data as useful to
genealogists until I read the following post, and pointed a second person
in this news group to the Broward County site.

As a sideline to my job, I actively search out Property Tax Roll sites on
the net. I have made a list of over 50 sites, cover over 100 counties,
including ALL of Maryland and New York, as well as links to several
descriptions of the legal language in deeds.

Please feel free to stop by at http://www.geocities.com/PicketFence/4798/ .

I update the list every 2 - 3 weeks, so stop by >from time to time.

I hope this helps you find that relative that isn't in the phone book.

A few weeks back, I asked for help determining if a "whowhere"
listing that had only a first initial was the person I thought it might
be. Several people took the specifics but came back empty.

Now comes Jan Weinmann who suggested I try the Broward
County property tax database at http://www.bcpa.net/search.htm.
In about ten seconds the information came up with names of both
man and wife (the wife's name had also been a matter of some
speculation), together with more financial information than I felt
comfortable knowing. (At least I know that if he doesn't answer,
it's not because he can't afford the postage.)

All that remained was to confirm that the complex named in the
database matched the "whowhere" street address - which
Bernard Kouchel did for me.

So thanx to Jan and to everyone else who offered to help out.

New website for address & phone searches #general

james gross <larklane@...>

For those of you who are trying to find living relatives
and know their phone # or address, I have the following
info for you:

A year ago I gave a URL for a site that was very useful
for skip tracing. (www.pc411.com), It is now rather
inaccessable and may be shut down altogether.

Another site (www.555-1212.com) seems to be a very good
equivalent and is easy to use. It is supposedly IE and
netscape compatable, but I found the scroll option to only work
with IE . It depends which version browser you have. In any case,
you may want to bookmark this website as it is very useful.
