Someone recommended "label the back of every picture now."
That is not a good practice, as it can harm the place where the label is, either indenting the letters or causing ink to perhaps bleed

Why scan to jpg or png, both lossy formats, rather than tif, which is lossless? Every edit, including cropping, degrades the quality of jpg and png images, defeating the purpose of scanning at
