Shalom,
February, a short month? We at the Yizkor Book Project have laughed in the face of this short month and are pleased to announce that we have added and updated a record number projects during it. Also during this month, a number of new, exciting projects have begun to brew and, hopefully, in my next report I'll be able to provide more details of them. This month I would like to send out a sincere salute a wonderful group of people who are currently volunteering their free time in translating Hebrew and Yiddish into English. Their uniqueness is that each of them has worked on quite a number of projects and helped their advance for the benefit of us all. So my humble thanks go out this month to: Ruthy Erez, Yocheved Klausner, Sara Mages, Thia Persoff, Pamela Russ, Francine Shapiro & Esther Snyder. While we're talking about translations, if any of you out there are interested in helping to finance the translation of the 47 page section on Lviv (Lemberg) >from Pinkas Hakehillot Poland (Encyclopedia of Jewish Communities, Poland), please contact me privately. In general, if you have interest in financing any of the articles >from these pinkasim (encyclopedias) I'd be happy to hear >from you and I'll explain how it can be done. Now to the February figures. During this last month we have added these 4 new projects: - Kremenets', Ukraine (Voice of Kremenets Emigrants in Israel and the Diaspora - Booklet 1) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kremenets1/Kre1_0100.html - Kremenets', Ukraine (Voice of Kremenets Emigrants in Israel and the Diaspora - Booklet 2) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kremenets1/Kre1_0200.html - Kurow, Poland (Yiskor book in memoriam of our hometown Kurow) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kurow/kurow.html - Lukow, Poland (The book of Lukow; Lance Ackerfeld <lance.ackerfeld@...>
Shalom,
February, a short month? A Russian site (Belarus TV/Radio, "Internet Broadcasting Directorate

At the top of the page is a button for "English" (second button >from the left). The article, in English, is entitled, " Remember his name..." This topic is about 58 pages in length. http://www.tvr.by/rus/radiomyn.asp In a sidebar of this site is also a Russian language " Database (DB) of Soviet POWs who died in Camp Zeithain, obtained by processing various documents containing often a different levelinformation." For this you would need to use a translation tool for English. Also, in a sidebar, is a searchable site for: "Lists of prisoners of war buried in the cemetery Hammelburg" from Belarus. You will also need a translation tool in order to convert to English. In the sidebar is also an audio archive for those who understand Russian. Georg Hans, who was my mother's cousin, died in 1970 in New York and his wife died in 1977 in Cook County." When the burial site location is known, an old low-tech trick is to leave a handwritten note in a bottle for people who visit the grave. The more active approach might be to contact the cemetery office and so on. Given that fact that the name is relatively rare, I would contact every LICHTENSTERN found in the US phone directories. Shalom,
February, a short month? We at the Yizkor Book Project have laughed in the face of this short month and are pleased to announce that we have added and updated a record number projects during it. Also during this month, a number of new, exciting projects have begun to brew and, hopefully, in my next report I'll be able to provide more details of them. This month I would like to send out a sincere salute a wonderful group of people who are currently volunteering their free time in translating Hebrew and Yiddish into English. Their uniqueness is that each of them has worked on quite a number of projects and helped their advance for the benefit of us all. So my humble thanks go out this month to: Ruthy Erez, Yocheved Klausner, Sara Mages, Thia Persoff, Pamela Russ, Francine Shapiro & Esther Snyder. While we're talking about translations, if any of you out there are interested in helping to finance the translation of the 47 page section on Lviv (Lemberg) >from Pinkas Hakehillot Poland (Encyclopedia of Jewish Communities, Poland), please contact me privately. In general, if you have interest in financing any of the articles >from these pinkasim (encyclopedias) I'd be happy to hear >from you and I'll explain how it can be done. Now to the February figures. During this last month we have added these 4 new projects: - Kremenets', Ukraine (Voice of Kremenets Emigrants in Israel and the Diaspora - Booklet 1) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kremenets1/Kre1_0100.html - Kremenets', Ukraine (Voice of Kremenets Emigrants in Israel and the Diaspora - Booklet 2) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kremenets1/Kre1_0200.html - Kurow, Poland (Yiskor book in memoriam of our hometown Kurow) http://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/kurow/kurow.html - Lukow, Poland (The book of Lukow;
