So it seems that KaZ is an abbreviation that became a surname.

Neumark Judenliste - 1809 #germany

Judith Elam

Further to my previous posting on the subject of Judenliste, I e-mailed the
Prussian archives in Berlin-Dahlem to ask them if they had Judenliste after
1805 for Soldin, which is the period I am now researching. Herr Behnke
replied that they have Judenliste for 1809 for the following places in the
Neumark: Fuerstenfelde, Baerwalde, Landsberg a. d. Warthe, Soldin, Zehden,
Berlinchen, Schoenfliess and Lippehne.

At this stage, I am only interested in obtaining the Soldin list, which
apparently can be put on a CD and mailed. If anyone is interested in seeing
this 1809 Soldin list and willing to share in the cost, please contact me
privately at elamj@...

I will be in Washington visiting my daughter during the conference and hope
to be able to attend some sessions. My father Marcus Clayton (Cohen) son of
Lewis Cohen of Somerset East and previously Pearston, came to England in the
1920s and married my mother. I am researching his family. They came to
England originally in about 1860 fr Nathan and Feinstein respectively. Their
father was Hyman Cohen who died in England about 1874. I would be delighted
to hear if anyone is researching this family.

With best wishes,
Louise in London.

bounce-2199172-772948@...

Hello All,

I am pleased to announce that on Monday, August 15, DC2011 will offer a
theater performance, performed by Theater J. Theater J is a professional
theater company located in Washington, DC, founded to present works that
"celebrate the distinctive urban voice and social vision that are part
of the Jewish cultural legacy as a self-mission.

(NOTE: The link for Theater J is
<http://washingtondcjcc.org/center-for-arts/theater-j/about-us/about-us-main-page.html>)

Theaters in DC are dark in August, so we have brought a highlight of the
Theater J season to our conference hotel for conference attendees to
enjoy. In an attempt to maintain the feel of the home stage
performances, seating will be limited to 400. Tickets are $12 each.

The Moscows of Nantucket
By Sam Forman
This witty, smart, multigenerational family comedy, with moments of
poignant self-revelation and awareness, takes place on a summer weekend
at the parental home in Nantucket. Watch the fur fly as brothers play
out old family dramas, mixed with contemporary angst, passion fueled by
booze, compulsive Blackberry checking and disclosed secrets. Sam
Forman's previous play was Helen Hayes Award-nominated, "The Rise and
Fall of Annie Hall."

You will be able to purchase the tickets on the DC2011 registration web
site soon.

Hope to see you there.

Conference Drawing Winners #belarus

dc2011_conference@...

At the March 13 JGSGW meeting, Betty B. Ross of Bethesda, Maryland was
selected as the winner of a 5-Night Stay at the Grand Hyatt Washington
during the DC2011 conference. When reached by phone, Betty was elated and
reported that she “never wins anything!” Congratulations to Betty.

Last month’s winner of a 5-night stay was Israel Pickholtz of Jerusalem.
Israel’s name was drawn >from among those people who submitted proposals to
speak at the conference. Betty was among those people who registered for the
conference during the Super Early Bird, which ended on January 31. Each of
the winners will stay in a luxurious room at the hotel for the duration of
the conference.

JGSGW, the conference host society reminds everyone that the Early Bird
rates continue through April 30. Weekly attendees save $65 by registering
early instead of waiting to register at the conference. Folks who register
by July 1, may enter the data on the names and places that they are
researching and this information will be included in the Family Finder which
will be given to full-week attendees.

The 31st IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy will take place
from August 14-19, 2011 at the Grand Hyatt Washington in Washington, DC.

Yiddish Theatre and Vadeville #YiddishTheatre Yiddish Theatre and Vaudeville (YT&V) Research Group #yiddish

dorsharris@...

Dear Members -
As a moderator for the YT&V group, I monitor the messages to be
posted to ensure they are consistent with the goals of the group.
Unfortunately, except for the general announcements that also appear
on other JewishGen message boards, we are averaging only one
pertinent message a month in 2011.

We also questioned the membership about their interest in a Birds of
a Feather meeting at the Washington, DC IAJGS meeting in August. Only
one response was received >from the approximately 200 members.
Therefore, there will be no group meeting dedicated to the discussion
of the Yiddish theatre.

I question:
1. what steps should be taken to encourage more postings seeking or
providing information?

2. what should be done tp make the YT&V more valuable to the
membership in their search for family and friends that may have
played a role in the Yiddish media?

3. does the YT&V continue to have value, or should it be discontinued
for the foreseeable future?

There's nothing more boring than to be a moderator with nothing to moderate.
