There is a wealth of Kahal records held by various Ukrainian archives
for formerly Polish/Galician communities that can be found by searching the Routes to Roots website: http://www.rtrfoundation.org. Some of these records are in Lviv archives and many others regional archives. Some are quite old, others date >from the 20th century. A few examples for Kahal records for the following years/towns: Skalat - 1926-1934 Grzymalow - 1925-1939 Buchach - 1922-1939 Belz - 1667/1854 (LIST OF DEBTS AND DAILY PAYMENTS OF THE JEWISH COMMUNITY) Brody - 1921-1939 And for Lviv: 1895; 1900-1939 (REGIONAL ZIONIST ORGANIZATIONS); 1902-1940; 1925-1939 (JEWISH WOMEN'S UNION); 1935-1936 (LOAN AND MUTUAL AID ASSOCIATION "AHAWAT CHESED"; 1926-1939 (UNION OF JEWISH COOPERATIVES IN GALICIA); 1929-1939 (JEWISH SCOUT ASSOCIATION "HANOAR HACIJONI"); 1930-1933 (PALESTINE PLANTATIONS OWNERS ASSOCIATION "HANOTEJAH"); 1930-1939 (MAKKABI-UNION OF JEWISH SPORTS ASSOCIATIONS IN POLAND); 1936; (LIST OF MEMBERSHIP DUES PAID TO JEWISH COMMUNITY); 1936 (LIST OF JEWS PAYING MEMBERSHIP DUES TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY.) Search for your town and then scroll down the list of what record groups are available and you may be surprised to find Kahal records among them. To research these, you'll need to either visit the archive yourself, or hire someone to look through them and/or photograph/copy the pages, since these books have neither been microfilmed, nor indexed. Hi everyone,
The mystery of Feige FREEMAN. According to the records of Dolphin's Barn cemetery in Dublin. Feige FREEMAN died on 07-07-1927. Her Plot N=BA is - 09- A-09. I am 99% sure Feige is my gt grandmother, but I cannot find her death listing in Ireland. Feige/Faiga/Fege was listed as - Faiga FREEDMAN on the Dublin 1901 census. She was born about 1837. Her husband Tobias FREEDMAN died in Dublin in 1902. Tobias is also buried at Dolphin's Barn cemetery. Tobias & Feige have no stones on their graves. The family were >from Sveksna, Kovno. After Tobias died, Feige becomes a mystery until she's buried. It might be that she came to Liverpool or Leeds after Tobias died & then taken back to Dublin to be buried, but I cannot find her death anywhere in the UK either & I've looked at possible name changes. The other possibility is- Feige could have gone to South Africa after Tobias died. So she may have died in South Africa & been returned to be buried in Dublin. Tobias & Feige's son Isaac FREEDMAN went to South Africa. So maybe she followed her son Issac after Tobias died. Would there be any records of of a charity or Jewish burial society who would handle her return >from Leeds, Liverpool or South Africa to bury her in Dublin ? Or any shipping records ? Her name has been found as: Feige/Faiga/Fege FRIEDMAN/FREEDMAN/FREEMAN Any helpful suggestion would be appreciated Thank you Monica McMullin Liverpool UK monicamcmullin@... |
