Hi everyone,

The mystery of Feige FREEMAN.

According to the records of Dolphin's Barn cemetery
in Dublin. Feige FREEMAN died on 07-07-1927.
Her Plot No. is - 09- A-09. I am 99% sure Feige is my
gt grandmother, but I cannot find her death listing in Ireland.

Feige/Faiga/Fege was listed as - Faiga FREEDMAN on the
Dublin 1901 census. She was born about 1837.
Her husband Tobias FREEDMAN died in Dublin in 1902.
Tobias is also buried at Dolphin's Barn cemetery.
Tobias & Feige have no stones on their graves.
The family were >from Sveksna, Kovno.

After Tobias died, Feige becomes a mystery until she's buried.
It might be that she came to Liverpool or Leeds after Tobias died
& then taken back to Dublin to be buried, but I cannot find her death
anywhere in the UK either & I've looked at possible name changes.

The other possibility is- Feige could have gone to South Africa after
Tobias died. So she may have died in South Africa & been returned
to be buried in Dublin. Tobias & Feige's son Isaac FREEDMAN went to
South Africa. So maybe she followed her son Issac after Tobias died.

Would there be any records of of a charity or Jewish burial society
who would handle her return >from Leeds, Liverpool or South Africa
to bury her in Dublin ? Or any shipping records ?

Her name has been found as:
Feige/Faiga/Fege
FRIEDMAN/FREEDMAN/FREEMAN

Any helpful suggestion would be appreciated
Thank you

Susan Gray <grayps@...> asked where to get information about
Congregation Oel Yitzchok and its section at Mount Hebron Cemetery,
Queens.

Pillars marking the entrance to the section, shown in the photo Susan
posted on Viewmate, list the names of the synagogue's officers and
members of its ladies' auxiliary -- among them, Simon and Rose Hindin,
who are also buried in the section. The same Simon and Rose and their
four sons are on a family tree on Geni.com. Three sons have died but
one -- Sidney, 92 -- appears to be alive. His address and number are
listed in online directories. I suggest giving him a call.

Re the Manchester burial register, yes about 28,000 records have been
digitised but the holders of the information will not release it. It
is worth while e-mailing the following person who seems to be handling
the database -

Mr Simon Lopian - xxxxx@...
A few months ago, he told me that the list would be released at the end
of 2010 but nothing has transpired.  I e-mailed him several days ago
and he sent a short message to say he will deal with it immediately,
but so far there is no response.  Maybe if he receives a number of
inquiries, he might think again and release the database.

"I am searching for information about Congregation - Temple Isaac (Oel
Yitzchok) which has a section at Mt. Hebron Cemetery (Block 9,
Reference 14, Section F) in Queens NY.
I have tried phone books, internet etc. and while there are other
congregations with this name, this particular one appears to no longer
exist."

Good news for you is that it appears that this synagogue is still
alive and well, although in a different location >from where it
started. A Google search brought up:

Temple Isaac (Ohel Yitzchak)
1419 Dorchester Rd
Brooklyn New York 11226
718-284-8032

To gain a historical perspective, I searched the ProQuest NY Times
Historical newspaper which yielded several articles about only one New
York City-based congregation in the early 20th century with the name
"Temple Isaac" which was in Brooklyn, at 554 Prospect Pl. at Franklin
Ave.

This lead to an article in the Forward - "Keeping the Flame Alive in
Brooklyn" - about a rabbi who tends to another congregation near the
now-defunct Temple Isaac facility.
It explains: "When Congregation Kol Israel was founded in 1924, on
the ever-shifting border between Prospect Heights and Crown Heights,
it was at the center of a vibrant Jewish community. Most have
disappeared or have been converted for other uses. The nearby Orthodox
Temple Isaac is today a Baptist church."

Other insights >from the article about the historical fate of these
synagogues can be read here:

http://www.forward.com/articles/131725/#ixzz1GyYQW9fi

The current listing of the congregation, found on a site called "The
Roaming Jew" (which deals with kashrut) and a street view of Google
maps, shows that the building is there and also houses a senior
center. If you contact them (also known as "Prospect Park Temple
Isaac") you might find they still have old records or information
about its history.

In 1895 in Tarnow, Lipman SCHONBERG married Gitel HANDGRIFF.
They had a daughter Fradel who was born in 1896.

Is anyone at all familiar with this family? I've contacted a few
researchers via JGFF, so far with no results. I cannot find any
information on them after the birth of Fradel and am hoping
that someone familiar with the SCHONBERG family is also familiar

Please will anyone transcribing these or ANY other records let me know what
