ROSENBAUM Family from Checiny
#general
Linda Shefler
In 1957 Sara NAGEL (daughter of Chanoch GOLDSZTEJN and Rivke nee ROSENBAUM)
submitted numerous Pages of Testimony for the ROSENBAUM family of Checiny. I am sure that Sara has since passed on, but would like to know if anyone is familiar with this particular ROSENBAUM family. They descend >from Szymon ROSENBAUM (born 1865 in Checiny) and Szaindla Malka DOMB (born 1867 in Wloszczowa). Szymon ROSENBAUM was undoubtedly named after his great grandfather Szymon ROZENBLAT who was ABD of Checiny, my 3rd great grandfather. Any information on this family (beyond all of the Pages of Testimony which I already have) or any connection to descendants >from this family would be greatly appreciated. As always, many thanks!! Klabano surname

Lois Hanson
I hope all you experts can give me some advice. My maiden name is
Klabano and my paternal grandfather, Sam Klabano, said that he came from Borisova. Klebanov or Klebanova seem to be common surnames therebut no Klabanos. Am I making too great a leap by assuming that was our original name? Thank you, Lois Klabano Hanson Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 MODERATOR NOTE: Please reply privately.

Help needed--Russian translation for photo identification
#general
Lesley Cafarelli <lcafarel@...>
If you can read Russian script >from the early 20th century, I hope you can
help me. I have posted two old family photos >from Slavuta, Ukraine, plus two scans of Russian writing on the reverse of each photo. I would like to have a translation of the writing and am especially interested in anything that will help identify two of the people in each photo. The others in each photo are members of my grandmother Sarah (Kotel) Kisner's family-her mother and siblings. A fifth photo shows my grandmother soon after she immigrated to Boston, Mass.; in one of the other photos, her mother, Sheindl Kotel, is holding the same photo. The photos can be viewed by clicking on the following link for the image gallery and viewing images 17052 through 17056: http://www.jewishgen.org/viewmate/view.asp Here is a short description of each item: 17052: Photo of Kotel Family >from Slavuta 17053: Reverse of previous photo 17054: Photo of Sarah Kotel held by Sheindl Kotel in photo 17052 17055: Photo of four of Sarah Kotel's siblings with unidentified cousins 17056: Reverse of previous photo I have provided more information in the notes on these items. JRI Poland #Poland Agreement Signed Between JRI-Poland and Museum of the History of Polish Jews
#poland
We are delighted to announce that Jewish Records Indexing-Poland
and the Museum of the History of Polish Jews have signed an agreement where each of JRI-Poland's "Your Town" pages will have a link to the Museum's Virtual Shtetl pages for the same towns -- and vice versa. This will enable those reading about their town in the Museum's Virtual Shtetl site to learn about surviving records for their families by clicking on the link to the JRI-Poland page for the same town. There will be more than 1,000 linked towns and villages. The JRI-Poland site is at http://www.jri-poland.org/index.htm It contains an index to more than 4 million records of the Jewish presence in Poland -- mostly birth, marriage and death records. The Museum of the History of Polish Jews will open in 2012 on the site of the former Warsaw Ghetto. Its Internet site is at http://www.jewishmuseum.org.pl/index.php?lang=en More information about the signing can be found at: http://www.sztetl.org.pl/en/cms/news/872,a-cooperation-between-jewish- records-indexing-and-museum-of-the-history-of-polish-jews/ and http://www.cjnews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id= 20004&Itemid=86 Stanley Diamond, Executive Director, for the Board of JRI-Poland

Hello. My name is Josh Grise.
I am looking for any information on the Gartsman/Gartzman family. My grandmother who is 92 grew up believing her family had all been murdered, but recently, after many years of research, I have reunited her with her lost cousins. We are looking for other Gartsmans/Gartzmans who may have survived or fled during the war. The home towns revolved around Kiev, and include Chabna (Polesskoye), Ivankov,Narodichi, Ovruch, and parts of Zhitomir. There are probably more shtetls that held Gartsmans though. In our family, Avrum Gartsman (my great great grandfather) was the rabbi of Chabna. He was born in 184? and was murdered in 1941. His wife was Brocha nee Goodman, and their children included G enendel Urman, Peysah, Shlomo, Itzhak, Sarka Mostovsky, Khana-Masha Gershonzon, Basya Feldman, Yakov, Aaron, David, Simon, and one other. We have located the descendants of every one of the siblings except Peysah. Peysah (b 1890s) married Riva Lipshitz. Their children were Khana and Pesha. Please help us find them. Their parents were on the list of those murdered in Chabna, but we have a feeling that the two girls survived. Please let me know if you know anything about the Gartsmans/Gartzmans My email is jmgrise@... Thanks Josh
