Does anyone know why whenever I search JewishGen for birth, marriage or death records from Bessarabia, only records from Kishinev are found? Where are those records for the smaller towns? I’m mainly looking for records from Soroki and Ataki. I find revision lists and voters lists but not birth, marriage and death records. Do those records even exist but are not uploaded on JewishGen? Does anyone know?

A question for you - where does this document come from? The same passenger list is indexed at https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:ZXSF-K8T2 , but the color of the document is very different than what you've uploaded, suggesting that you might have found it somewhere other than the FamilySearch index. I am mainly curious because I am trying to find possible arrival manifests for my family that went to Uruguay (surname TURNIANSKY - brothers Israel and Menachem, and possibly their parents Beila Henia and Hersch Leib). While I found what I think is likely a departure manifest for Beila Henia from 1931 in FamilySearch, I couldn't find any of their arrivals (almost certainly from before 1930). Is there another source that shows Montevideo passenger lists from the 1910s and 1920s online besides FamilySearch? Adam Turner

Re: 1910 Manhattan census - Seward Park Strollers

Hi Mary, I looked at the 1910 census page. It is fascinating! All men, a very wide age range (the youngest being 15), and a lot of info left blank for all of them. Interesting that at the top of the page where it asks for "name of institution" that Seward Park is written. Also interesting is that the first man at the top of each of the two pages is labeled "head of household" and everyone else as "partner." It does look like these were homeless men. I tried to find some info on a few of them after 1910, but had no luck. A short history of Seward Park at: https://www.sewardparkconservancy.org/past mentions that NYC took over administration of the park in 1903. The Park included a running track. In 1904, a Pavilion was built with a gym, meeting rooms and the first public bathhouse to be opened in a New York City park. Please let us know if you learn anything more about this. Potok Zloty cemetery

I am undertaking an attempt to save and restore parts of this small cemetery in Potok Zloty-now Zolityi Potik (Ukraine).
There is a website from the Center for Jewish Art, in Jerusalem, with many pictures (pages) of matzevot from the old cemetery. The pictures are thumbnails, so asking for help with interpreting postings via Viewmate is not likely to be helpful due to poor quality of uploads. I am attaching the link to the site with the entire collection of matzevot and some of them also have Hebrew translations. cja@... Has anyone heard of young men and even boys used as forced labor for the Russian army during the FIRST Word War? I know they were often used to dig trenches, etc. This happened in our family and I’m wondering if anyone else has heard a similar story.

This is encouraging news. I consider R. Meir Wunder the ultimate authority on Galician rabbis, especially the Margolioth line But I don't read Hebrew well enough to trust my reading of his text. So thanks for this valuable evidence that Yosef Margolioth may have been in Zbarazh at some point. My question: Is this Yosef Yoska Margolioth the son of Alexander Sender Margolioth (1730-1802).
