Radcza

I can't speak to why the town of Radcza doesn't show up in either
its Galician or Ukrainian form in the JewishGen database but the more important issue is that the town was in the Gemeinde subdistrict of Lysiec in the main district of Bohordczany. That means that any records regarding the Jews of Radcza would have been collected and maintained by the Gemeinde registrar in Lysiec. Suzan Wynne Kensington, MD |

re: Cadastral Maps and house numbering systems
I have seen that one should also take into account the possibility that the numbering system might have been redone, so that they list only "new" numbers or "old" numbers and "new" numbers. I have also seen where there seems to be single digit shifts in house numbers over time. And this >from only three Cadastral Maps! karen roekard aka gitel chaye eta rosenfeld rokart |

Problem with Rudki birth record 1871-1873
#galicia

I have displayed a birth record at
http://pikholz.org/JSchafferBirth.html. This 1876 record is >from Rudki. Towards the bottom of the page, we have a late birth registration of Mojzesz, son of Samuel and Malie Schaffer, born 15 September 1871 with a note that he died 25 December 1876. Below that is the late birth registration of Josef to those same parents on 10 October 1873. The house number for both is 202. On the right is a column labelled PATRINI which I understand to be the maternal grandfather. My problem is that these two brothers, who have the same parents, have different maternal grandfathers. For Mojzesz, the mgf is Schmuel Mayer Mussinger, while for Josef the mgf is Srul Fiszel with no surname (unless it's Fiszel). I found a number or references in JRI-Poland to Samuel Mayer Mussinger (various spellings of all three component names) >from Rudki, including as the subject a 1834 birth to Wolf and Chany Mosinger and as the father of children born 1864, 1869, 1871, 1873 and 1887, with the mother Chaje Rifka Reiner. (The 1871 birth is Mojsche, same as the 1871 birth below!) Seems to me that if this is the same Samuel Mayer, he is a bit young for a 1871 grandchild, when he would have been thirty-seven. But not unheard of. In any case, that does not directly address the two mgfs problem. My interest here is Josef, who supposedly married a Pikholz, though his 1903 marriage record has him married to someone else. But that is a problem for another day. Israel Pickholtz Jerusalem |

Bad Arolsen records - New (old) policy?
#galicia
Israel P
Nineteen months ago, The Pikholz Project participated in the Bad
Arolsen research project that was sponsored by Gesher Galicia. A few months later, I received a CD with about half the files we had requested. Bad Arolsen did not offer any explanation regarding the rest. Several months ago I submitted a fresh request directly to Bad Arolsen for those missing files. Today I received a response and it was the same kind they used to send out years ago - the one about "personality rights," "direct relatives" and powers of attorney. In addition, they asked that I provide additional "exact personal" information on the people, even though I gave them ITS' own file numbers in most instances. I had thought those days were behind us. Has anyone else entered this time machine? Does anyone know what buttons to push to get them back on track? Israel Pickholtz Jerusalem |

These two pictures are >from the cemetery in Makow Mazowiecki, now
