Re: Hebrew and English Equivalents of Tewjc

Looks like Tevye, sort of, except for the "c" at the end, which was probably
pronounced "ts". Could that final letter be a misprint for "e"? Roberta Sheps Colchester, England From: Marc DVer, 14 September 2009 10:11 Can someone tell me the Hebrew and/or English equivalents of Tewjc? What I mean is what are the most likely Hebrew and English names to be used by or for someone whose Ellis Island arrival information had Tewjc as a first name.

While sifting through Temple Sinai records at Tulane University, I stumbled upon
World War I service records for Sinai members. The booklets, >from about 1920, were called "Questionnaire for Patriotic Records" and were filled out by the servicemen and women. Each record contains their full name, place and date of birth, full name of parents, how they were affiliated with Temple Sinai, lists of schools with dates, their occupation prior to enlistment, date of enlistment, place of training and service, class of service, rank and advancement in service (usually with dates). The records can be found in Special Collections http://specialcollections.tulane.edu/ Temple Sinai Collection #243, Box 4, Papers 1930-1936. Linda Epstein New Orleans, LA

Trials in post-war Germany: US Army lawyers
#general
Ann Linder
I'm researching a post-war murder trial, circa 1949, in Marburg
Germany wherein I think an attorney for the prosecution was a member of the US Army. The trial may have been held in Nuremburg but was not related to the Holocaust atrocities trials held there. This was a murder perpetrated in Marburg by "former" nazis.I've inquired of Yad Vashem, USHMM, NARA, and I recently submitted an ITS Bad Arolsen inquiry. Might anyone know of relevant research on post-war civilian murder trials in Nuremberg that the US Army was involved in that I might consult? I've read a couple of books I found in the library but they were not helpful How can I research this topic further? Do I need to go to Army achives & if so how do I approach that? Ann Linder Florida

There are cases I know of where names of children were listed on the
tombstone of a parent if the children had no other tombstone. For example, a child may have been killed during the Holocaust and there is no grave, or if the death was during an epidemic and burial was in a mass grave, or if the death was during an exodus of refugees where burial was at the side of a road with no permanent marker. This way the family had a permanent memorial for the departed. Vienna property records
#galicia
I recently learned that the U.S. Holocaust Museum has a
publication that lists all property owners in Vienna around 1939. Here is more info on that. The Viennese expropriation records at the Austrian State Archives. This provided property listings for several members of my family. I then emailed a request to Austrian State Archives for the records and received them via mail in less than a month. I share this in case some of you don't know this. Does anyone know if these properties were covered by some of the Austrian restitution processes.
