Shalom,
In spite the of the fact that during September we were all very involved celebrating the New Year, the Yizkor Book project continued to be very active and it appears that we haven't been sitting on our laurels (whatever they are..) During this last month we have added these 6 new projects: Kamyanets Podilskyy, Ukraine Lomazy, Poland Strzegowo, Poland Tyszowce, Poland Volodymerets', Ukraine Zychlin, Poland These 4 new entries: Devecser, Hungary (part of the Papa, Hungary project) Nemesszalok, Hungary (part of the Papa, Hungary project) Selets, Ukraine (Encyclopedia of Jewish Communities, Poland) Viskit, Ukraine (part of the Zyrardow, Ukraine project) And finally, we have updated 13 existing projects: Bedzin, Poland Czestochowa, Poland (The Destruction of Czenstokov) - sees the completion of this online translation - a remarkable achievement Dusetos, Lithuania - an almost completed project, which also contains almost 900 pictures - unique in its presentation Jewish Music in Poland between the World Wars Kaluszyn, Poland Katowice, Poland Kolomyya, Ukraine Krasnik, Poland Kutno, Poland - a new rapidly growing project. Lida, Belarus Papa, Hungary - a translation of the whole book was graciously donated Ryki, Poland Sanok, Poland Please remember that all this month's additions and updates have been flagged at http://www.jewishgen.org/Yizkor/translations.html to make it easy to find them. Yes, there is a lot going on and we're not standing still. In recent times, a number of fund raising Translations Projects were added and you are invited to look at this ever growing list and perhaps, help one of these projects financially so that we can continue on adding on to these extraordinary links to our past. http://www.jewishgen.org/JewishGen-erosity/v_projectslist.asp?project_cat=23 The new Translation Projects that were added recently are: Ratno, Ukraine Stolin, Belarus Pinkas HaKehillot Lita - initiated in order to translate as many of the chapters >from this encyclopedia as possible Finally, I am always pleased to hear >from any of you interested helping out in the Yizkor Book Project in any way you are able. Gruszka means "a pear". -iewicz, -ewicz, -owicz are common endings in Polish surnames. It's very plausible that a part of Gruszka-family changed their surname to Gruszkiewicz.
