ARNOLD, ULLMANN, and HESS Families of Friedrichstrasse (Hechingen), Hohenzollern
#germany
Ralph Baer
In 2003, I submitted a series of posts to GerSIG describing each of my known
ancestral families. [*** see note below.] One of these is the ARNOLD family who lived in the Jewish settlement in former barracks on the Friedrichstrasse, at that time outside of and now in Hechingen in Hohenzollern. The children of Nathan Isaac (about 1760 - 4 September 1811 Friedrichstrasse) adopted this name although they first used the name NATHAN in honor of their father. Nathan's wife was Gidel (Clara, Guedel, Gustel) Samson DREYFUSS. His parents were Isaac Nathan (died 31 December 1810) and Babet Hirsch (Bele Zwi) (died 2 March 1812). Both were buried in the Hechingen Jewish cemtery. Now that the Reichssippenamt registers for Hechingen are on line at the Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart website and had the opportunity to look at the records in detail, I have found a definite brother of Nathan Isaac and another likely brother. The definite brother was Samuel Isak ULLMANN (about 1768 - 18 March 1835 Friedrichstrasse), married to Lea Koppel ULLMANN (born about 1782 Haigerloch). Samuel adopted the family name that his wife's family was also using. Thus, there were ULLMANNs who lived in Friedrichstrasse who are probably not related to me. There also was concurrently a second man named Samuel Isak in Hechingen proper (family >from Muehringen) of no interest to me. The possible brother was Hess (Ezechiel) Isak HESS (3 October 1765 Friedrichstrasse - 17 February 1844 Friedrichstrasse), married to Theres (Deichel) Samson (about 1769 - 27 February 1845 Friedrichstrasse). Not only do I think that Hess was a brother of my ancestor Nathan Isaac, I think that his wife Deichel Samson was a sister of Nathan's wife Gidel Samson DREYFUSS. This is based upon the fact that almost all of the children's names correspond and both had fathers named Samson, but I have not found any confirmation. I am interested in other information on both the ULLMANN and HESS families described above. There is a lot of information on the ULLMANNs in the FTJP. This includes a grandson of Samuel Isak ULLMANN, named Samuel ULLMAN, who was a somewhat famous poet, among other things. There is a museum in Birmingham, Alabama, named for him. Ralph N. Baer Washington, D.C. ursusminor@... Hello,
I'm looking for any information on the town of Dolyns'ke in the Kherson Province. It was called Valegotzlov in 1900, and Hotzila in Yiddish. My great-grandfather Elisha Reis came to New York in November of 1901 and I'm trying to find any records >from the area. He changed his name to Louis Rosen once he arrived. His wife's name was Elke (nee Rothman). The children were Yidel (boy, age 8), Chane (girl, age 3, my grandmother) and Efraim (boy, age 1). Elke was pregnant when they left the Ukraine; Samuel was born in Feb. of 1902 in New York. One more daughter, Sylvia, was born in 1912. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Sincerely, Dalia Taft |

I'm looking for family related to Kalman and Eva SILVERMAN of New York City.
Kalman came >from Chorzele (north of Warsaw), was born around 1855 and emigrated in 1873 (according to his US passport application). Eva was born in NY. The 1910 census shows them living on W.116th St in Manhattan, owning a gown company, and living with a son Sydney (born c.1892). The 1920 census shows them living on 7th Avenue with a step-daughter Hattie Levy, a step-son Sydney LEDERER, a son-in-law Michael LEVY and a grandson Joel LEVY. Kalman is listed as a manufacturer of dresses. The 1930 census shows them living on Amsterdam living with son Sydney LEDERER. Also, in 1930 Michael and Hattie LEVY were living on West End Avenue with their son Joel. Michael was the manager of a garage. I have found that all the SILVERMAN/ZYLBERMAN >from Chorzele and Przasnysz are related to me and have traced them back 12 generations. If this is familiar, please contact me privately at MandJMeyers@... Marty Meyers Montclair, NJ |

Seeking descendents of Solomon (Salomon) SCHREIBER and his wife Hermina

Ann Armoza <armozaan@...>
Hello-
I am looking for descendents of my mother's great uncle Solomon (Salomon) SCHREIBER and his wife Hermina. Here Is what I know. Salamon Schreiber arrived in the United States on 27 August 1905 with his children: Moritz (9 yrs), Therese (2 yrs.), Jessie (5 yrs),Esther (7 yrs). They arrived on the St. Paul out of Southampton. Their place of residence is listed as London. They were going to Salamon's wife Hermina Schreiber at 161 Legol (?) Street, Brooklyn, NY. Another daughter, Jeannette, was born in the United States in 1908 or 1909. Solomon died in February, 1956 and is buried in Mt. Moriah Cemetery in New Jersey near his wife, Hermina, who died 26 October 1913. As a small child, I went with my parents to visit "Uncle Schreiber" and his family. I believe that they lived in the Bronx in New York City. Married names of their daughters were Theresa BLUTTMAN, (died 13 Nov 1991), Esther KATZ, Jessie BIERMAN. Solomon Schreiber was the uncle of my grandmother Dora Schajovits FUCHS/FOX. Her mother was Golde Schreiber, sister to Solomon. I believe that the family came >from the area around Budapest but cannot pin down a town for this Schreiber family. If anyone knows of this family, I would appreciate any information or being put in contact with them. Many thanks, Ann Schweibish Armoza armozaan@... Searching: FUCHS (Eperjes/Presov, Slovakia), SCHREIBER (Budapest, Nagykata, Hungary), STEINBERGER (Sabinov,Slovakia), SCHAJOVITS/SAJOVITS (Onok,Ukraine). |
