Fogel or Vogel Family from Riga
#latvia
West24th@...
I'm new to this SIG and researching the name Abraham FOGEL who was born about
1850 Riga, Latvia. The son of Solomon FOGEL. He came to The United States with his wife Rose and several children in The early 1890s settling first in Buffalo, NY where they had many more children and changed The spelling of their name to VOGEL. After 1910 the family moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Abraham passed away in 1919. We could not find any record where or when his wife Rose passed away. If these names sound at all familiar to anybody then please write me directly. Thanks in advance for any additional information. Howard Sedlitz, NY MMODERATOR NOTE: Private replies only.

Aldgate Jews Temporary Shelter
#unitedkingdom
Dave Lichtenstein
Hello there
I hope that some one can assist me please. I am trying to find out more information on the Aldgate Jews Temporary Shelter, 63 Mansell St, Aldgate (East London). My late father Heinz Lichtenstein before departing for Mombasa on the SS Watussi on 13th January 1939 >from Southampton had this as his address. Other passengers on that boat who had the same address were: Gerhard Braun; Wolf Friedman; Leonhard Meyer; Max Meyer and Hans Schneideman. All were German Jews who had left Nazi Germany. I have a number of questions: 1. Does that shelter still exist today. 2. If not what is located at that address. 3. Are there any records kept of those persons who stayed there in late 1938 - early 1939. I am trying to attempt to piece together my father's journey >from Germany to the UK. I understand that there may have been a newspaper article and possibly photographs of those passengers embarking on the ship's voyage 69. Again can any body assist me in these areas. With many thanks in advance Dave Lichtenstein Sydney, Australia

Philadelphia 09 Conference Discussion Group is Now Starting
#unitedkingdom
David Mink
We are very pleased to announce that the 29th IAJGS International
Conference on Jewish Genealogy Discussion Group is now starting. This is the discussion group to join to learn more about the conference. Those who subscribe can ask questions about the conference and Philadelphia as well as answer questions that others pose. It is a moderated discussion group like all other such Jewishgen groups. The co-hosts of the conference, IAJGS and JGSGP, thank Jewishgen for once again making a conference discussion group possible. YOU will make the difference in the success of this discussion group for we rely on all of you to ask questions, share information about how to get the most out of a conference, tell about all the great things in Philadelphia, and so forth. Once the conference program is announced, this is a very good forum for telling others about various speakers who will be present, about SIG and BOF meetings, and about any other activities you think important to watch out for. You can learn how to subscribe to the Philadelphia '09 discussion group at the conference website: www.Philly2009.org. Scoll down the left-hand buttons to the one that says Conference Discussion Group. Click on that button and you will find all the information. Actual subscription is done at www.jewishgen.org We look forward to your participation in our Philadelphia '09 conference group as well as seeing you in Philadelphia. The program is shaping up to be a very exciting one and there will be many wonderful activities available. See you there! Conference Co-chairs: Anne Feder Lee and David Mink
