There still seems to be confusion about U.K. Outgoing manifests -
they do exist and they are ***not*** on ancestry.com as was
erroneously stated two weeks ago on the Jewishgen Discussion Group.
Saul Issroff and I decided to compile a very brief guide to clarify
the situation and remedy this error.

A: UK Incoming manifests:

{nb - passengers boarding in Europe or Mediterranean ports = these
passengers will only show up, if picked-up as transit passengers
on a ship originating >from Australia/NZ, S.Africa, Asia, N.and
S.America etc.

These U.K. ***incoming*** passenger lists, for people arriving in
the United Kingdom, have been made available online by
ancestry.co.uk - see:

www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/searchthearchives/migration.htm

B: UK Outgoing manifests

1776-1889: Generally speaking, U.K. emigration [outgoing] passenger
lists between 1776-1889 have not survived.

1890-1960: these are available and have been digitised.

Passenger lists with over 24 million records >from ships sailing to
destinations worldwide. Findmypast.com, in association with The
National Archives, have developed ancestorsonboard, a new database
featuring BT27 Outward Passenger Lists for long-distance voyages
leaving the British Isles >from 1890-1960.

With ancestorsonboard, you can search for passenger list records of
individuals or groups of people leaving for destinations including
Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and USA featuring
ports such as Boston, Philadelphia and New York. Passengers include
not only immigrants and emigrants, but also businessmen, diplomats,
artists, musicians, tourists etc. Images of the passenger lists are
available [can be downloaded].

Saul has studied South African manifests indexed here, based largely
on the outgoing UK manifest data:

When my great-uncle Joseph Leon WERNER applied, in 1913, for his
British citizenship, he identified his place of birth as "Novo
Alexandria, Province Lublin (near Kief)", and I am having some
trouble finding the town in JRI-Poland or a modern map of Poland.

There are references - in WWI military despatches - to a battle
fought between the Germans and the Russians over a temporary bridge
(across the Vistula) at Novo Alexandria, and that would seem to be
the right area. But the Nowy Aleksandrow (51' 56" x 20' 44")
listed in ShtetlSeeker doesn't seem to be on the Vistula.

Also, where - in JRI-Poland and in the Polish National Archives -
might I find B, M, and D records?

relationship? (I assume they had to be at least cousins as Henry's
son was named Augustus Charles).

2) Who were Henry and Isabel's remaining children (the 3 other sons
and daughter)?

gold... the 1901 ship's manifest for my ggm Dora BERKOWITZ, or

of the family!!

In the Belarus -Lithuania 1795-1900 census and family lists, I
found Lemka Oshrin ( son of Movska) in 1834 census. his sons were
Lipman Oshrin b abt 1794 , Orel Oshrin be abt 1793, Josel b abt
1794. Our surname is Oshrin which means descendent of Asher. I
never found an Asher in the Shrine first names. I did find out
that Lemka, also means Asher. Was Lemka the Yiddish name and
should I list him as Asher in the genealogy.?
I also found a Lemil Oshrin in the 1834 , father of Lipmann. Would
he be Lemma/Asher?

I also found 3 granddaughters of Lemka named Asne. Were they named
for Asher?.

West Coast, about 72 hours >from Hamburg. The general pattern was
to land on the East coast, travel by train to Liverpool, and sail
to North America >from Liverpool. I doubt that there even were
direct sailings >from Hull or Grimsby to North America.
