My Heritage - Theory of Family Relativity

Has anyone had any luck with this facility on My Heritage? MH says:
Family Theories of Relativity will be generated between you and a match based off of common information in your family trees. The more information you add to your tree, whether it be manually added or confirming accurate matches, can trigger future theories.
I have over 14,000 DNA matches on MH, and over 2,200 people on my family trees, but not a single match has ever activated the Theory of Family Relativity.
I asked MH Support about this and they said:
'As there are no theories there at this time, it simply means none have been generated based off of the information currently in your tree and the trees of your DNA matches. The information in your tree is the only information at your disposal to add to or edit that can trigger a theory.
This is why I would recommend continuing to build on your tree in any way possible, as any piece of information can trigger a theory. Note that it would also be imperative for your DNA matches to be working on their own trees for theories to be generated.
For some more information on the feature itself, theories always begin in your tree and end in the family tree of your DNA Match. The traversal of the path may include other family trees on MyHeritage, Geni, FamilySearch or historical records on the tree.'
Doesn't make much sense to me. 14,000 people out there matching my dna and not even my 2 closest dna matches, who I know are my 2nd cousin once removed and my 3rd cousin, attract the Theory.
Am I missing something?

I can help you with that. Dr. Abraham Lipshitz' daughters both live in Israel. Their names are Anne Silverstein and Rose Nathan. Anne lived in Chicago until a number of years ago. Charles' daughter Deborah also lives in Israel, but his son, Leon lives in Chicago and I know him well. I'd be happy to provide you with his contact information. The Timisoara Jewish Cemetery has a very good up to date register I visited numerous times the cemetery and found all Tombstones requested.
You might consider writing to the Jewish Community and see what they can do for you. Alternatively you can wait for next season when I usually go to Timisoara and check for you. Best regards and good luck Peninah

One cousin of my father (Miriam) was married to a man called Sigmund Sperber If you want I can talk with his daughter and try to find out from where he his. What I know from him is that he was born in Europe and moved to Argentina probably due to the war where he married Miriam, later they moved to Santiago Chile and then moved to Beer- Sheva Israel. Very simple. Years ago, in my computer, I created a form that essentially mimics all of the information that is on B.C.'s, M.C.'s, & D.C.'s. With several copies of each form, I go to the archives and copy all of the data for which I am searching. When I get home, I then enter this data into the computer, and then print it out. If done in a formal manner, the printout looks pretty darn good.

I, too, have had trees online at Ancestry and My Heritage for many years and have had no problems. Yesterday, however, my problems began when I uploaded my tree to Geni.com. Within minutes, I noticed that someone I don't know, who is not a relative, was claiming that all my relatives were his relatives. It reached a point at which he was seeking to merge my family with his bogus family. I decided to close my account but couldn't fully do so because Geni required that I pass my tree along to someone else, in my case, a distant relative who has a tree on Geni. So now, I've closed my account and two people are managing it - one is a complete stranger and the other is a distant relative.

In my family for several generations there was always an OKER. I had an Uncle OKER, a great-uncle OKER and so on. I have never found the name anywhere else and wonder whether there could be a connection with Uscher or Ojzer. Any ideas are most welcome.

Are you familiar with the ordering process for a c-file? It seems you need to first request an "index search" and then a "record request". However, if I have the c-File and a-File numbers from the index available at Ancestry or FamilySearch, can I just order the c-file directly, skipping the "index search" and the fees associated with it?

I have never seen anyone take a photo of a microfilm image (at any archive), but I think it is wise to take the NYC Municipal Archives at their word. The records may be in the public domain, but the City of New York owns the images and is free to charge a fee. If all you want is the information, you are free to take notes and not purchase a certified copy. Or even better than that, find the information you seek on familysearch.org or ancestry.com. Both sites have been upgrading their NYC vital records indexes to include information previously only available from the original documents on microfilm at the NYC Municipal Archives.

(formerly Lippschütz), an educator, born in Lodz on May 5, 1922 and died in 2017 (father of Ann and Rose) as well as his brother Charles Lipshitz, also died in 2017 (father of Rabbi Leon Lipshitz and Deborah Katz (mother of Yaakov Katz, an American-born Israeli journalist and author and Editor-in-Chief of The Jerusalem Post since 2016 and three other children).

Searching Serrero families from Salonica

I am researching the Serrero families from Salonica.
Daniel Serrero son of Joseph was married to Gracia Cohen born in 1858. His youngest sibling named Gabriel was born in 1869. I am looking for other Serreros who would have been born in the first half of the 19th century and whose father's name would have been Joseph. The Serrero families were relatively few in Salonica. They were mainly merchants.

Taking Photographs of Microfilm Reader Images at NYC Municipal Archives

As many of us know, the NYC Municipal Archives charges about $15 for a certified stamped copy of a birth, marriage or death certificate, even if you go down to their office and find it yourself on their microfilm. I just care about the information and don't care about the certification. So taking a picture of the image on the microfilm reader screen would be fine for me. I called them and they said it was not allowed. Has anyone ever actually tried this in person? Any thoughts as to whether they can legally prohibit taking a picture of a public record?

Hi Sherry - you could be correct, viz. the lack of connection to a specific township in the records. Unfortunately, the current principal at Sinai Chapels doesn't have any history on the congregation, if that's what it was. The one hint I have on one of the headstones is a reference to Przesclaw, but there's nothing in the databanks that adds to that. I've never known of any Hungarian connection, all references are to Galicia or Austria. I can check the cemeteries where other branches are buried to see if there are any clues there.
On other records - I've been through everything I can identify, from census records and city directories down to draft registration cards, and nothing so far. They were pretty good at covering up their traces. Apparently, there was a lengthy questionnaire that was completed in connection with the WPA study. If/when I can get to those - not accessible on line - I may learn more. Alan
