Re: Austrian Military Library Address #austria-czech

Paul King

With regard to recent postings on obtaining military officer information for
Jewish Austrian soldiers during WWI, the following address could be helpful
for some researchers.

I received a reply in English to an inquiry of mine >from the
Militaergeschichtliches Forschungsamt Potsdam. The e-mail exchange
was dated >from May 2006.

Their address:

Militärgeschichtliches Forschungsamt
Abteilung AIF
Zeppelinstraße 127/128
14471 Potsdam
Tel: 0331-9714-554
BW: 90-8529-554
Mail: marcusvonsalisch@bundeswehr.og

I was looking for a Ludwig or Bernhardt FISCHER who was
reportedly (family oral history) a commandant of a prisoner of
war camp in WWI. I had B/D records for the parents and a strong
assumption of Vienna residence. The reply provided the
following caveat:

"The main task of the MGFA is doing basic historical
research in German military history of the 20th century.
For this purpose our institute possesses a large library
but not an archive. We do not have any publications
about the Austrian prisoner-camps of WW I."

I hope this advances information for some JewishGen
researchers. I still have not located my Ludwig or
Bernhardt FISCHER.

Seeking exact death date for Robert Adam POLLAK (1877-1960) in Vienna

MINTZ in North Carolina #usa

Nirdlinger@...

GREETINGS TO: Kellye Lesperance of Illinois

The following are just a few suggestions:

Go to your local public library and get a book on genealogy.

When sending an email to a site such as this, your subject should be the
surname you are interested in, e.g. MINTZ >from North Carolina. And, also give a
date such as "19th century" or "1860 - 1920."

Also, while at your library, check to see what "on line" genealogical
services they subscribe to.

I checked your name MINTZ at one of these sites and found your grt grandmother
listed as having given birth to three children. Also, found was her sister,
your grt grandaunt Naomi, with two children (all listed at the end of this
email). Needless to say, this also provided the full names of the men they
married.

Further research showed what appears to be the parents of the two sisters, a
Samuel H. MINTZ and his wife, Josephine (in the 1910 US Census for
Wilmington, NC).

Keep in mind, this was the results of a quick look at the respective birth,
death and census records available at a welll-known for fee gen site
for North Carolina.

Seeking LEIBOWITZ #general

Bruce Leibowitz

Does anyone have information on a LEIBOWITZ family that included Morris and
Bessie LEIBOWITZ and their son, David, and daughter Lottie, they may have
had one or two other children as well. Morris was born approximately 1883
in Russia and came to the USA in 1900; Bessie was born approx. 1891 and came
to the USA in 1912 (this according to the 1930 Census). They were married
around 1911-1912. I am the son of one of their children.

Thank You

Bruce Leibowitz

Question on neighborhoods in Oradea, Romania #general

Leslie Weinberg <lbw50@...>

My researcher in Romania sent me the birth records for my grandmother
and eleven of her siblings. To start with, I was amazed at the number
of births, since I know of only six children altogether. Most of the
others died at the age of a month, or slightly older. Was this common?

I also noticed that the family seemed to move >from one residence to
another, with practically every birth. There are at least eight
different addresses, with one of them repeating ( Kolosvari),
appearing with the third, eighth, and eleventh birth.
Can anyone tell me where these streets are, what kind of neighborhood
they were in? They are Nagy Magyar St., Pecze St., Kolazsvari St.,
Szent Janos St., Nagy Hid St., Gyar St., Malom St., and Suto St.
Thank you, Leslie Weinberg

"The Case For Open Public Records" White Paper #general

The IAJGS along with the rest of the genealogical community are concerned that
legislators and regulators believe that access to vital records is a cause for
identity theft, however, there is no proof that access to records is the cause of
identity theft. We believe access to public records must remain open.

Posted on the IAJGS website at http://iajgs.org/pramc/legislation.html is a link
