Any ideas of how to find out which DP camp a survivor was
in? The man was originally >from Pinczow, was is a DP camp
near Munich and then went to Italy. Knowing the DP camp
seems to open lots of research avenues. We checked the

Re: LEBOWITSCH? #hungary

Gábor Hirsch <g_hirsch@...>

Lebovics, Lebowitsch etc. was not an unusual name in Hungary, in the 1944 Jewish Census of Bekescsaba I found the following names
Lebovits Ágnes
Lebovits Herman
Lebovits Hermanné
Lebovits Irén
Lebovits Livia
Lebovits Oszkár
Lebovits Vilmos
Lebovits Vilmosné

more in Bekes megye (county, komitat) and I am prity sure that in other communities you might find many more.

Best regards

hello, again.

well, I found my grand parents wedding certificate and now know that my
grandmother's maiden name was (if I can read the writing correctly)
LEBOWITSCH (perhaps LeboVitsch) and she was >from Hungary.

does this name indicate any particular area of the country in the late
19th century? she was married to a man named Morris BUCHLER

as always, any help would be and is greatly appreciated

My gg-grandfather Louis Rubin immigrated in the 1870's

to Chicago. In Nashville he married my step gg-grandmother
Anna Shapiro, who's family owned a grocery store. Louis

Moderator: Did the marriage take place in the US or Hungary? What year? When did your grandparents come to the US? Have you checked the Ellis Island records and naturalization records for birthplaces? Have you checked JewishGen's All Hungary Database for BUCHLER and LEBOVICS? It's easier for us to help if you provide more information.

Lithuania SIG #Lithuania Researching family from Jonava #lithuania

Howard Margol

<< From: "Sam Glaser" asglaser@...
I'm researching my Grandfather's (Israel ZLOTNIK) family and looking for any
details people may have on it. He was born around June 10, 1879 and came to
New York >from Jonava, Lithuania on July 3, 1905.
Any additional information would be appreciated. >>

Peggy Freedman has very graciously donated an English translation of over
10,000 Jonava vital records to the LitvakSIG. Presently, Aaron Roetenberg
is in the process of reformatting the data into an Excel spreadsheet.

For a $100 contribution to LitvakSIG, specified for the Jonava vital
records, you will receive all of the Jonava vital records. Additionally,
there are many Jonava vital records, particularly for the 1922-1930
period, that Peggy never obtained. When these records are translated,
at some time in the future, you will also receive these records as well.
For Jonava researchers, that is a real bargain and a great opportunity
to further their research.

At the end of this digest, you will see instructions on how to contribute
to LitvakSIG. It is a very easy process and you can do it online with a
credit card.

Lithuania SIG #Lithuania RE: Missing Historical Item #lithuania

Ann Rabinowitz <annrab@...>

The inquiry seems to be a wild goose chase since no specific information is
provided and the death occurred in the 1920's.

Probably the person representing the deceased's estate contacted the family
for instructions on what to do with the property which had been willed to
them.

I am assuming that when the family refused to collect anything that the
property was disposed of as is usually the case. The family could have
asked for the book to be sent to them by mail, but it seems that they did
not do that.

The book in question would probably have been sold or something similar and
is untraceable at this point, especially since no family name is known.

If specific information were available, I would have suggested looking for
the deceased's estate (will) record in the SA National Archives. Then, if
it were available, getting a copy to see what property was mentioned.

My great uncle's estate mentioned specific things including a gold watch,
amounts of coinage, etc., and who they were to go to.

Also, Dr. Gold can always look for the records of his known family who lived
in SA and died during the 1920's if he has that information in both the SA
National Archives and the RootsWeb sites.
