I am trying to trace any Information of the KAUF gamily >from Lvov

I found a Kauf in the book "Maorey Galicia" (1830s) and relatives

Izabelin/Nieporet? - correct spellings - help pls. #poland

Nigel Wilson <wilsonettes@...>

Dear Genners,

Before entering names into the Family Finder I need to be sure that
the towns the family came >from are correct - I have only been given
phoenetic soundings.

Zabaleen and Nyeprent - Poland.

After an exhaustive search I have boiled down the towns to the following:

Zabaleen -- Izabelin (Zabelin in Yiddish), was under the Russian Empire,
then Poland and now is considered to be in Belarus.

Nyeprent -- Nieporet in Poland. Information is listed as Izabelin
is a village in the Nieporet Commune.

Both places were supposed to be near Warsaw.

Apparently family lore is they were Polish...
hmmm heard that one before...

So am I correct? Do I enter Izabelin under Belarus and
Nieporet under Poland?

I cannot find a map that shows both of these towns near each other
as family say they went >from one to the other quite easily.
Izabelin yes but Nieporet doesn't appear.

Additionally I cannot find information on b/m/d for either towns -
any suggestions where to search?

Thanking you as always.

Re Jews in Japan - POHL #general

ronald Wallace

I am trying to trace a family that lived in Yokohama Japan in the early 20th
century.

A Siegfried POHL, born in Hanau, Hesse in 1847 went to live in Yokohama. There
he met and married a Japanese woman Yoshiko Higuchi. Does anyone have any
experience in tracing foreigners who lived in Japan in those days?

Would appreciate any guidance as to how I might be able to research these
individuals.

Thanks

More Problems with online search form from Bad Arolsen International Tracing Center #general

Entering the date in the way they suggest solves that problem, but the form
also seems to have trouble accepting Canadian postal codes. I solved the
problem by including my postal code on the "Country" line, and filling in
the "Zip Code" line (apparently to the computer's satisfaction) with a
series of 9's.

Dear Genners,
I too had trouble with its arsolen ,they would not recognize the way I
entered todays date,(110407)I did try several methods before I gave up.

On a ship manifest for three FRAIDER (FREIDER) family members, the first
town listed for the first member is Kishinev, but I do not recognize the
last two names of towns or villages. This is a surprise to me since I have
an autobiography and records and family confirmation that the town of their
last residence was Kuzmin >from outside of StaroKonstantinov. The birth town
of one or more family members was given as Podolskiy in one document by one
family member and Kamenets in another (I believe this refers to
Kamenets-Podolskiy),

The ship manifest image includes the FRAIDER family members in question,
Ephroim (Ephraim or Frank) and Dina, as the last two entries, and the last
two town names which I need help with identifying appear near the right-hand
side of the image.

Itzchak Meir HORCHSTEIN, rabbi from the Israelite Orthodox Community of Brussels #general

Hi all,
I'm tracing information on Itzchak Meir HORCHSTEIN, supposedly a
cousin of my great grandfather, Szulim Hersh Kano z"l. He left Poland
to Belgium with Horchstein's help. I have received several documents
from Horchstein to the Belgian government where he tries to help
establishing my family in Belgium.
One of these documents dates to 1932. I'm trying to trace any members
of this rabbi's family to look for a connection in our families, to
confirm my great-uncle's affirmation that they Rabbi Horchstein was a
cousin of ours.

Does anyone have ever heard about Horchsteins in Belgium ?

Synagogue near Wilder Street, Philadelphia founded by Shereshev-Pruzhany Immigrants #general

Sylvia Danovitch <danovitch@...>

The immigrants >from Pruzhany and Shereshev formed social groups and burial
societies in both NYC and Philadelphia. My New York grandfather and
grandmother (David Eisner and Annie Pasmanik Eisner) were buried in Mt.
Hebron cemetery, NY in plots belonging to the Shereshevo Pruzhany Society.

My great grand parents in Philadelphia and my grand parents were buried in
Shereshevo Pruzhany plots.

My great grandfather Mayer Plasky in Philadelphia and Meir Chvalosvsky or
Khlavovsky in Shereshev started a synagogue near his home which was on
Wilder and 6th. Doubtless it was a stibbel, but at any rate, it no longer
exists.

I am eager to discover the name of that synagogue and if possible, what
became of it: doubtless it merged with others. The records of that shul
might well contain precious names and dates for me and for others with roots
in Belarus that would unlock mysteries: I want the names of my great
grandmother's mother and of my grandmother's (Celia Krugman Plasky) mother.

Does anyone know the name or names of synagogues frequented by immigrants
from these two Belarusian villages in who lived in Philadelphia?
