GREENBERG - what's the next step
#general
L A <lisala7366@...>
in about 1903 I know my GGF, GGM and Great uncle came
into the USA via the St Albans crossing to Boston by train. I checked the manifest years ago and found nothing, I checked again last year and found the same three people I was looking for but they were called Greenberg, not Greenblatt. All three matched the first names. So I knew it was them. I have a couple questions; 1. Would there be any record to find between Canada and Boston? The St Albans record I found was a ship manifest. So didn't they have to do some form of crossing into this country? The Nat. papers say they came >from Kishin of Russia, I'm guessing Kishinev. 2. I know they lived in England with a relative temporarily after they left Kishinev. However this relative had no children, and their names were Harry and Rebecca Cohen (might as well be Smith right?) What do I do now? Is vital records in London and Liverpool then Kishinev the next step? I checked the jgen site and found nothing. Thank you as always for any guidance. Lisa Arnett nee Golden Origianlly >from the Boston Suburbs now in the Philadelphia suburbs, Researching Greenblatt, Goldman,Greenberg >from Shargorod and Kishinev, Finegold >from Vladivostok

David & Lotty SEGAL, Iasi Romania

Bubylu@...
Hello,
I just came across a postcard that was sent to my grandfather Nathan Segal who was at the time living in the United States. This postcard is dated 9/10/1933 and it was >from my grandfathers nephew David SEGAL. This card is introducing my grandfather to David SEGAL's betrothed whose name to the best of my ability is Lotty Grieberd or Greuberol or something similar. I'm sorry but I can't make out the names spelling as well as I'd like to so I do apologize for this. The postcard states, "We send you this as a sign >from our part that we are betrothed and you have relations in Romania to which you write rarely." I would so love to hear >from anyone who might know or have known or are the family of David and Lotty SEGAL. Just of additional note that this postcard is also a picture of David and Lotty and that should make it easier to identify. Also, I know that my grandfather and his brothers and sister came >from Iasi, Romania. I would so love to hear >from anyone to whom this sounds familiar. Sincerely, Lois Segal Friedman Delray Beach, Florida MODERATOR NOTE: Please respond privately

Reading the wise advice >from Mark on paying for Polish records, I just want
to mention one more method of payment, which really makes the ordering of records expensive. It happens when you ask the records >from the archive but receive them by the Polish Embassy (as a formal record and not a copy of the record). Is there a why to avoid this requirement or is it a new rule that one have to obey? Eli Brauner Israel

Dear Genners,
I have found a lost Uncle in a directory listing on Jewish Gen. His last known whereabouts are listed as Italy. I have been told that people who went to Italy after WWII were on their way to Israel. Are there any databases in Israel that list those people who went >from Germany to Italy to Israel during the years after the Holocaust? All responses greatly appreciated. Hope Gordon Intermountain West

NYC Look Ups

A. E. Jordan
I am preparing to do a new round of research in New York City at the
City's Archives and the NY Public Library's genealogy room. While a lot of data has been loaded to the Internet there is still a lot that you can only access via a personal visit. During my visit I will have some time to do research assignments for other people. The types of things I could do is birth, marriage and death certificates for the time frames that are public; birth, marriage, death index look ups; NY State Census (1905, 1915, 1925); Manhattan 1890 Police Census, city directories. If you are looking for someone to do these types of lookups, please contact me privately off the list and we can discuss and see if I can help you. Allan Jordan aejordan @ aol . com
