Vital Records in Chernigov - SHAPIRO
#general
David Goldman
Hello everyone.
I occasionally post this question because it is always possible that new participants have new insights into this problem. A number of years ago I researched the existence of vital records of my SHAPIRO ancestors >from Surazh at the Chernigov archive. For some strange reason there were no vital records for anyone at all - no birth records, no death records, no marriage records. Only a few census records. I am wondering why this could be. Any insights would be valuable! Thanks, David Goldman

Re: Searching for long lost relative
#general
Bob Pachner <rjpachner@...>
I have very recently learned about my birth family, and about a very close
relative whom nobody had any trace of since his birth in New York on March 1, 1955. I know his birthname (first name Mark) which is probably not his legal name today, since he was very likely adopted. I also know precisely where he was born in New York. So far I have been denied access to various records which might help me trace him, due in part to my own adoption and the NY State laws re: sealed records. I'm certain that my relative has no idea about any of this, nor even that they might have another birth relative. And I can tell him the facts and stories about his birth family. If anyone with this knowledge was themselves adopted or might know of someone with this profile (it is definitely the exact birth date) please contact me privately. Thank you. JrRothst@...
Would anyone know anything about a Chaim-Labe BIEDKO (or Biedak?) who was
born in Wysokie Mazowieckie, Poland on Jan.15, 1933? His father was Mordko Biedko (b.Sokoly, Poland, 1896) and his mother was Chane (Bober) Biedko (b. Wysokie Mazowieckie, Poland, 1898). Maybe there is someone who knows anything about this family? Please send responses directly to me. Jerald A. Rothstein #112162 JrRothst@...

From Alsace to Prague ?
#austria-czech
Micheline GUTMANN
To all who have done interesting answers about the name HECKER:
nobody thought about the possibility of an Alsatian family to go to Prague. And I know that some did. For instance, I recently studied the genealogy of the great tragedian Rachel FELIX and I got her parents' marriage certificate. A very interesting (not yet published) one which cannot be completely reliable or proved, but it could be interesting to try to verify something in Prague. This origin of this family is in Alsace, upper-Rhine. In that certificate, it is written that Rachel's maternal grand parents went to Prague and died there: Alexandre FELIX died in 1818 and his wife Jeannette SALOMON in 1819. Chayim Fried of NY wrote: "Does anyone know where I can see an index of records
in Prag?" This is a complex and too general a question to answer precisely. As a first step, please study our own website: http://www.jewishgen.org/austriaczech/ and read this: "Getting Started With Czech-Jewish Genealogy" - by E. Randol Schoenberg and Julius Mueller and then continue with this article "The Jewish Museum of Prague" by Henry Wellisch: http://www.jewishgen.org/austriaczech/pragmusm.html On the website you will read about the Familianten records stored in Prague where there are also many BMD records. Now we have also have the Prague Konskripce (1850 - 1914) ie Konskriptions [Melde] Zettel on the internet, but they are only partially scanned: http://digi.nacr.cz/prihlasky/ The 1793 census of Bohemia has been published and there is a volume on Prague - Vol V1/1. This would have to be accessed at a library, but few stock it. It really depends on what you are looking for. Celia Male [U.K.]

Joan Naimark
My maternal grandparents were Samuel Joseph KERSHMAN and Sarah DUGOLENSKY.
They were both born in or near Ciechanow in the mid-1880s. They married in 1905 and emigrated to London, England, where they had 5 children and stayed until they came to Montreal, Canada, in 1922. Sarah's sister Helene DUGOLENSKY was known to be in Berlin in the mid-1930s.
