I need to have translated >from German to English the
following two death records recently uploaded to ViewMate. VM10414 - Death record of Johannes HAHN in Eppelsheim (north of Worms, Germany). VM10415 - Death record of his wife Johannetta LIEBMANN in Eppelsheim. I really only need to have the handwritten portions translated, but if you feel industrious, I would be very grateful. I should be able to figure out the typed portions without two much trouble. If that is still too much to ask, I hope someone could at least help me with the 10 words written in the left margin of Johannetta LIEBMANN's death record. Thank you. Dear Fellow Genners,
Rebekka SCHAPIRO, also called Anna SCHAPIRO, was born in Mainz on Oct. 8,1909. Her father was Joseph SCHAPIRO, a Mainz merchant. ( I have not got his wife´s name.) Her sister was Feodora / Dora ZIEGELLAUB, née SCHAPIRO ( b. Igstadt near Wiesbaden, 1908 ), who got married to Friedrich / later: Fred / ZIEGELLAUB, originally >from Worms. These two were able to get out of Germany and take up residence in the USA. After the war, Fred was ( for a time ) Director of the AJDC in Frankfurt / Main. Dear All,
Please identify the nationality of the hats, shoes and suits of the people. They are obviously staging a scene >from the life of the Greek philosopher Diogenes (the man in the center), who according to the legend, was looking for a [honest] man, as written on the lantern, and was usually sitting in a tub (seen behind the man). [look the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy www.iep.utm.edu or http://philosophers.endless-greece.com/diogenes.php] Please tell, as far as possible, the age of the kid. The man on the left and the child (born December 1897) are Jews, the others are unknown. The photo might have been taken in the early 1900s, in the North Caucasus (Armavir, Vladikavkaz), Ukraine (Mariupol), Moldova (Tiraspol), or Russia (Yeisk, on the Azov See.)Please send responses directly to me. Hey, Guys and Gals,
Does it take a philologist like myself to point out that the words "dzhindzi" or "g'ingi" are the phonetic pronunciations of "GINGER," the English word often used to describe a shade of RED. Lots of redheads in my family, both the paternal Suchowola (Poland) and maternal Rietavas (Lithuania) branches. Our English cousins often called us "Ginger."
