his family in Israel.

We believe the connection is that he is the nephew of
Simon Gurevitz(sp?) who emigrated to London >from Minsk
early in the 20th Century.

Visits and correspondence were exchanged with my

Brighton, Sussex) in the latter part of the 1900s.

125 miles/200 kilometers NW of Chisinau

His father was Chaim LERNER (born circa 1880's) ben Nachum. I believe Nachum's
father was a Rabbi in Briceni. The Rabbi's other children include, Mordechai,
Leizer, Rose and Mary. I do not know the Yiddish names of Nachum's sisters.

Nachum eventually settled in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Rabbi may have also had a niece named Sarah, who married George
HANDELMAN. They lived in New York.

If anyone is familiar with this family, please email me privately.

1/2" "swiggle".

I am working on a Solomon LEWIS family tree that has only recently been
handed on. There is very little to guide the reader.

However, a recent email says:

"The person Mum thinks might help you is Wiggs ( nickname obviously) Hill.She
has a daughter called Rosemary who I believe worked for the BBC". This dates

from a meeting in London in 1970's

me. My GGM Matilda Lewis was born in London in 1845 and travelled to New
Zealand where she married Henry Solomon Meyers in November 1867.

practiced Judaism on their estate, but their descendents are good
Catholics, no doubt.

Stephen Pinker, the psychologist had a long article in this Jewish New
Year's edition of the London Jewish Chronicle which was a wide-ranging look
at the psychology of being Jewish (very crudely as I don't have a copy to
hand).

He briefly touched on the subject of the difference between European Jews
and Gentiles - and as I recall he said that with a small amount of
intermarriage over the centuries there was very little difference between
the two groups genetically.

Maybe someone else has a copy of this recent edition and would have a look
at it for me?

LENIN YIZKOR BOOK PROJECT
I am kicking off a campaign to raise money to translate the remainder of the
Lenin, Belarus Yizkor Book. To date we have put on line under the auspices
of JewishGen's Yizkor Book Project English translations of the Hebrew and
Yiddish Tables of Contents as well as 4 articles, photos and their captions, and
the community register, a listing of those lost in the Holocaust. This work
has been done by volunteers. If you would like to see this work, go to the

If you are fluent (native) in Hebrew or Yiddish, have good English and MSWord
skills and would like to donate translation of one or more articles please
email me.
However if we are to get the remaining 225 pages translated in a timely
fashion we will need to hire professional translators through the Yizkor Book
Project. The total estimated cost is $8514. To get the project in motion I have
donated $500.00. If you would like to participate with a donation, the
procedure will be as follows:
If you would like to donate to this project and would like to have specific
articles translated, email me privately and I will send you by attachment a
schedule listing the articles in the Tables of Contents together with their
page locations as well as the number of pages to be translated and the cost of
translation for each article. Depending on the size of the article the costs start
at $20.00. You can then list the articles you would like to have translated,
total the cost and using the donation form linked to the Lenin URL above make
the donation of at least that amount of money to the JewishGen Yizkor Book
project. BE SURE YOU CLICK THE LENIN DONATION BUTTON TO ENSURE THAT THE MONEY
GETS ALLOCATED TO THE LENIN YB PROJECT. The Yizkor Book Project form states

markers and put the information on line. Some of these tombstones and markers
may be quite old and may yield significant information.
The initial proposals for four cemeteries were posted at

so that funds could be raised. These projects are for the cemeteries
in Lenin, Novogrudok, Oshmyany, and Volozhin.
